There are some songs which just ooze (vanilla) sex. Then there are those which scream unadulterated kink! Fetish.com writer Abi Brown gives us her BDSM music playlist.

I have almost a hundred playlists on my Spotify account. They cover any number of bases. I have at least three playlists related to sex in some way, only one of which it is actually reasonable to play during sex. Protip, gentle readers: the song Two Ladies from the film and stage musical Cabaret might be thematically appropriate for a polyamorous lifestyle, but it really isn’t what you want to hear while you’re attempting to give someone a blow job. Take it from a woman who knows. Here are the songs I like to get tied up to.

BDSM music playlist #1: Jace Everett - Bad Things

This is probably the corniest song on this list. It was the theme tune of for hit TV programme True Blood, for god’s sake. But I can’t help but be turned on by it regardless. There’s something dirty about his voice that I can’t quite resist. Furthermore, there's something about the music itself makes me think of being thrown up against walls.

BDSM music playlist #2: Danzig - Little Whip

Much like Bad Things, this is another gravelly voice alongside a simple, pared-back melody. Indeed, much like sex, this song has a compellingly inconsistent tempo and a plethora of rises and falls. The image is what I find appealing, I think.

This BDSM music takes a single moment of a longer encounter and crystallises it into something anyone who has been there can identify with in a heartbeat. Danzig’s voice can be a bit of an acquired taste, but I’m fond of this track.

BDSM music playlist #3: Magnapop - Hold You Down

This was a bonus track hidden at the end of Magnapop’s 1996 album Rubbing Doesn’t Help, and despite its upbeat poppy rhythm, it has a surprisingly large amount of sex appeal. This BDSM music is as much about a mindfuck as it is anything physical.I’ve always liked the idea of the deliberateness of the things a dominant does.

BDSM music playlist #4: Depeche Mode - In Your Room

This is not the most famous kink-focussed Depeche Mode song, and I can’t claim not to love Master and Servant - what goth doesn’t? However, of the two of them, this is the BDSM music that can actually turn me on all by itself. The lyrics look at the actual headspace of submission in a way that isn’t all that common. It's about the feeling of being completely subsumed by someone else who is, for a time, your entire world.

BDSM music playlist #5: She Wants Revenge - Tear You Apart

I discovered this song and the next one on the same day when I was about seventeen years old. I think I might now have loved them so much and for so long that I have actually conditioned myself to get a bit worked up every time I hear them.

Anything with a steady, deep bass beat like this is going to sound like raw sex to me. It truly is BDSM music. But the hottest thing about this one, in particular, has to be its juxtapositions. It is in large part a very relatable song about a teenage romance, until suddenly bam! And now he wants to grab her by the hair and tell her....

BDSM music playlist #6: VAST - Pretty When You Cry

What was that I just said about deep, steady bass beats? God, the drums and guitar in this song make my spine shiver. The dominant in this is clearly a lot crueler and more serious than the dom in many of these songs. This song crawls into a headspace that even BDSM communities don’t talk about a whole lot.

BDSM music playlist #7: Nine Inch Nails - Closer

This song came on once while my then-girlfriend had me in an exceedingly compromising position. As the song played, she leaned forward and whispered into my ear that the first line of the chorus isn’t at all the dirtiest part of this song - the second is far, far more filthy. She then proceeded to show me exactly what she meant. I realise this track is a big old BDSM cliche now, but I have never forgotten that moment.
