Hair: brown. Eyes: blue. The problem with most dating sites is that there's no box to tick for “I will snarl hateful obscenities in your ear while you whimper in pain.” And that's not an easy subject to bring up with strangers. Few conversation topics lead naturally to it.
The answer: kinky dating sites like BDSM.com, where you can learn someone's corporal punishment preferences before you hear about their first pet. But does BDSM.com have anything going for it other than a really good URL? That's what our BDSM.com review intends to find out. The site looks promising at first glance; signup is quick and straightforward and the automatically-displayed member photos at least pass a quick proxy smell check.

Kinky Dating Reviews: BDSM.com

Initially membership is free, but that just allows you inside. It's a pretty hard sell right from the beginning; as soon as you sign up the site hits you with a page of add-ons that can be bought immediately. These range from “all the bondage movies you can handle,” to enhancing your profile in the listings or enabling standard members to message you directly. There’s also the option to upgrade to silver or premium membership, and paying in a lump sum is far more economical if you can afford it. In essence, these monetised options allow you to reach out to contacts you like and to get noticed faster, but there’s also round the clock phone support, the ability to create community blogs and live member videos.

Without a paying membership, there's not a lot you can do on BDSM.com

bdsm.com - kinky dating review - fetish.comWithout a paying membership, there's not a lot you can do. You can search for other members, which returns their ages, locations, genders and a thumbnail photo, but that's it. You can't even view another member's profile with a free membership. On the plus side, the search is fast and easy to customise, with plenty of options; you can limit your seearch to new members, search by kink, save searches for future reuse and more. It's not a bad search tool, except for the part that free users don't really benefit from it. Of course, from the perspective of the developers that might not be a bad thing. Running a fetish dating site isn't free, after all, and they obviously want to turn free users into paying members.

There are a few things you can do: read blogs (I'm glad you can read blogs free of charge here, unlike the entire rest of the internet), join discussion boards, check out the advice columns, and so on. Essentially, the social community aspects of BDSM.com are free, but the actual fetish dating site is a paid service. Of course, as with any social media site, you get what you pay for in terms of the content you'll find in the blogs. If you don't mind a lot of excited capital letters you might find some interesting perspectives. Forums do seem to be pretty active; some are organised by interests, while others are regional.

Within our Kinky Dating reviews: BDSM.com isn't an exception: The more you put in the more you get out. If you like plenty of attention and twenty private messages a day – just get involved, chat in the forum, vote in polls and comment on blogs that catch your eye. If you want to become part of the scene, there are plenty of events that enable this. After making friends online you can go along to munches for an informal chat about BDSM lifestyle and have a chance to network with a wider circle of kinky individuals.

There are a lot of genuine members here however it was very disappointing, ,living in a country with not many members to be baited and switched at the end of my subscriptions twice and find a lot of the "members" were the creation-only fakes to pad out the numbers. The first time I fell for it, the second I didn't. My advice is to give this site a try but be wary because it is just as unscrupulous as the bad ones at times.
