Sorkado Reivew: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Sorkado's June 2016 launch means that it’s only been up and running for a matter of weeks. This excuses some of the wrinkles, but trying to connect with fetishists on Sorkado is likely to give you a Sore-Head-O. This kinky dating site review will walk you through the ins and outs of this brand spanking-new fetish dating community.

Sorkado Review: The Stats

Sorkado.com hasn’t yet made membership information public, but looking at the “birthdays” tab (on the day of writing) lists ten users. If there are ten birthdays each day, that could put an estimate at as many as 4000 members. Clicking on the ten birthday boys, girls and gender-queers suggests that many of them have already dropped out of the pool and are no longer active users.

At the time of writing, only three people are online, and one of them is yours truly. Still, it only takes two to tango in a dating community, right?

So, where are they all? Oddly, Romania, but everything’s in English. Kinky users are mainly in the US, with a smattering from the UK, Dubai, and Europe. Which I only found out because users specifically mention their location in profiles or groups. Not because it's actually part of the profile set-up (more on that, later...)

Sorkado is completely free to use, which is refreshing. There also don’t seem to be any hidden costs lurking in the shadows. Their cheeky terms of use simply suggest that the creators of the dating community would like in on 1% of the action generated. That’s a plus for the exhibitionists!

So that’s the specs, but what about the experience? First up in this dating site review…

The Good.

A wholly inclusive platform: the lists of gender, role and sexuality options are extremely comprehensive… "Well-endowed," even! There is truly something in that drop-down menu for everybody. The intersex, pansexual cuckold and the gender-fluid, heteroflexible rope bottom. Impressive.

Next up, unfortunately…

The Bad.

The blurb on the homepage brags that by joining, members who love “BDSM, fetish, swing and kink” will be able to post and see information about “fetish events or swing parties” and join in with their “local BDSM community”. Well, this dating site review takes issue with each one of these claims:

1. The fetish factor seems a little diluted by the majority of profiles which appear to be more vanilla. Yes, there are dick picks and tit pics a-plenty. Yet very few latex masks, high heels, or whips on show. If you want to look for someone to share a particular fetish with, then good luck with that, because there is

NO KEYWORD SEARCH!

There is also no box-tick option other than for relationship roles. Sorkado’s marketing sends mixed messages, with descriptions of kinky users and fetish lovers (a broad spectrum of lusts and identities), but the homepage features four site ambassadors under the heading “kinksters’ reviews”. Every single snapshot showing a topless, white, under-35 woman.

2. Not a single event or party in the listings. Zilch. I don’t just mean in my area but on the planet.

3. How can anybody connect with their local BDSM community when there are no regional options? There’s no postcode or city option (not even country) in your profile. Therefore can’t see anyone else’s location either. So really, Sorkado’s functionality is as a picture-sharing community. The chances of being able to meet up with someone - or attend a party nearby - are slimmer than your little lace panties.

And finally…

The Ugly.

Some of Sorkado’s features are downright weird -and not in a good way. With the initially appealing function of sending another user a “hot gift” actually bringing up a screen of the most sickly-sweet clip-art you’ve seen since receiving that hideous valentine’s card from your great aunt. Want to signal to a sweaty, leather-clad brute that you’re into him? You can choose to send any of these decidedly non-kinky images: a three-tier cake, a teddy holding flowers, a rose, a pink frosted cupcake, a diamond ring, a Chihuahua, a pink gift box, a pink frosted cupcake with star sprinkles (in case the other two cake options weren’t quite what you were looking for), a pink car stuffed with wrapped gifts, a cup of coffee with a frothy heart, a diamond, a love heart, an ice cream, a lipstick kiss or an envelope with a heart card peeking out. What? Why? This is a seriously weird addition to a dating community pitching itself as an online dungeon for sex fiends.

Sorkado, when your hot gifts include fewer confectionery items and more used knickers, bear hugs and friendly thrashings, maybe then we can talk.

More Ugly....

Another misplaced feature is the hot or not* section which allows you to scroll through photos and rate them out of five. There’s no apparent way to submit photos for this area. It seems likely that the pictures are automatically gathered from user profiles, which is a little more mean-spirited than the open-minded kink community would usually go for. Sure, it must feel great for the 4.5-star rated skinny white girls bending over for an up-skirt picture, but it’s probably also a self-esteem knock for the lower-rated BBW black girls, hidden-away subs, small dicked dandies, and less pert women in their 50s. Especially when they haven’t even asked for a star rating from the wider dating community.

Oh and of course… There’s always a safety consideration with kinky dating communities. While Sorkado has a warm and thoughtful policy towards content and privacy, it’s hidden away in a tiny link at the bottom of the page. Their user guidelines would be most useful if displayed to new members on first log-in. Their “report” facility would be more helpful if available on every profile page, rather than being a well-kept secret in the small-print. They do at least require email verification before using the site.

Sorkado Review: The Verdict

So, what’s the verdict of Sorkado’s dating site review? Well, like all of their members, they haven’t asked for a rating, but they are going to get one. Two stars.

Check them out for yourself and let us know what you think.

*Editor's note: The "hot or not" function is no longer on the website*

Thanks @Yoghurt for pointing out that things have indeed changed on Sorkado. As a fairly new website, I'm sure they still have some ahem.. kinks... to work out. They are probably going to be changing features, updating them or replacing them with others for awhile. HOPEFULLY they'll be getting some kinkier gifts in the near future! We'll probably do a second review on them later on and see what they've improved (or not).
