A ballad of fragility……

She emerged from a deepened slumber

A new life was now upon her

 

The shackles of her cocoon fell far away

As she faced her first brand new day

 

She stretched her wings far and wide

Her beauty you could not hide

 

Her veins had been etched over time

Her metamorphosis was sublime

 

A kaleidoscope of colours shone right out

She was a stunning sight without a doubt

 

Her submission to life was for all to see

It was time for her to be set free

 

She took her first few steps out into the light

She breathed in deep, it was so bright

 

The world seemed so big, she was unsure

But she gathered courage, she wanted more

 

She shimmied her wings and began to try

A few good nerves as she started to fly

 

In her heart she had a thirst

It felt as if she could burst 

 

A wobble here, a wobble there

Her flight took off, high into the air

 

Exhilarated, she built up sp*eed

She was hooked now, she had a need

 

The allure of her adventure, was a given

Her curiosity made her driven     

 

She felt it in her heart and in her soul

The world was hers to have and to hold

 

She fluttered, frolicked and weaved

It was a breathtaking sight to see  

 

Many admired her harmonic devotion

She drank them all in, like a sweet potion

 

The more she flew, the more she grew

Taking risks without a clue

 

Her frenzy of flight had begun

She had no idea it was about to be undone

 

The foresight was not yet hers to hold

She was a newborn child and all but cold

 

The storm blowing in caught her off guard

Sending her hurtling towards the boneyard

 

Trying to avoid the heavy rain stings

She ducked, as she flapped her wings

 

Ruffled and flustered she made landfall

Not content, she took flight once more

 

Avoiding the danger, she wanted to explore  

If she was a tiger, you would have heard her roar

 

She danced and flitted through the trees

Drinking the sweet nectar as she pleased

 

Lost in a magical world of her own

She was in heaven, this was her throne

 

A robin joined her journey on the way

However, he was her danger, as she was his prey

  

Realising her plight, a valiant chase ensued

Darting and diving as she was pursued

 

She was tossed and thrown around

She screamed but there was no sound

 

They zipped and zigzagged across the sky

Dancing like shadows in the nigh

 

Another swooped in and tried its way

She wished they would just go away  

 

But this was her life, she had to fight

To save herself, she used all of her might

 

The journey to landfall was a scary ride

She needed a haven, a place to hide

 

She landed with an awful thud

As she hit the softened mud

 

She dragged her body along the ground

Until she found shelter underground

 

Her scales were cut, her wounds were deep

But they with hers now, ones she would keep

 

A reminder of all that had come to pass

A memory that would long last

 

She broke down and closed her eyes

No longer could she flutter and fly

 

Tattered and bruised she lay her head

She felt as if she was dead

 

She tucked herself far, far away

Trying to rebuild her strength each day

 

She tended with care to each abrasion

This was her new daily equation

 

As time passed, she began to heal

It was time to re-find her zeal

 

She willed herself to push right through

With lessons learned, she began anew

 

The flight of this butterfly was one of legend

Passed on from generation to generation

 

A reminder not to lose sight of your bravery within

Your fragility is a special and wonderous thing

 

Battered and broken only lasts a short time

Dust off your wings and start to climb

 

With each new lesson, a chance to sew

Seeds of wisdom, you plant as you grow

 

Let your ballad of flight continue to soar

As your fragility remains beautiful to its core……
