The storm

I closed closed the distance between us until only a breath separated our faces. The storm outside rattled the windows, but neither of us looked away.
"You keep telling yourself you should leave," i murmured.
Evelyn's pulse betrayed her. "Maybe I should."
"Maybe."

My fingers brushed lightly against her wrist, giving her every chance to pull away. She didn't. The silence between them was charged, each heartbeat louder than the rain.
"You're dangerous," she whispered.
"I know."
The eyes locked before i leaned in slowly, pausing just short of a kiss. She closed the final inch herself.
The kiss was slow and searching, more a question than a conquest. When separated, neither spoke. Outside, lightning illuminated the room for an instant, revealing expressions that were equal parts longing and uncertainty.
