They call it the kinky Tinder, but can you whip up a BDSM date using the Whiplr app? In the spirit of serving our vision to be the most trusted BDSM and Fetish community, we asked Victoria Blisse (the Queen of Smut) to bring you a Whiplr review so you can decide if it’s worth a download or not.

Whilpr Overview

The Whiplr app is made to bring kinksters together. It came to life right at the height of the 50 Shades of Grey phenomena, and you can tell. A lot of the advertising for it is intertwined with that, which may pull you in or put you off, depending.

Whiplr App Visual Appeal

The look is dark, with the classic black and red colour combo with the odd splash of beige which somehow gives it a more modern feel. When you log in you’re taken straight to a page filled with other online kinksters, so you can get straight to business giving your own Whiplr review of all the sexy kinksters online!

It is easy to sign up, not too many questions and lots of gender options to choose from, where many of the vanilla dating apps are very binary in their approach. You can also pick from a big list of kinks to add to your profile.  You can add a little about you, but you don’t have to do this to sign up. Words are limited so use them wisely.  You need to upload a photo, which will get a Whiplr review and needs to adhere to their strict rules, however, you can upload your kinky photos as private pictures though!

Whiplr Navigation and User Experience

Navigation is relatively easy. The actions are all in bars at the top and the bottom of the page. The only bit that confused me initially was that all the settings, help and FAQs are accessed by pressing the three stripes on the left of the top bar. They don’t all display at once though; you need to hit ‘more’ to see everything.

I had no problems using the app; it’s fast and responsive. However, when I used the website to see how it compared, I found it would ‘hang’ sometimes especially when I was looking at messages, so my Whiplr review suggests you keep to the app.

There are ways to filter your results when you first come onto the app, the results are ordered by distance alone, but you can filter it to find a specific role or a person into particular kinks too but only if you’re a Dekadom, Whiplr’s premium account. Everyone gets this for a trial period, but you will have to pay to continue this privilege after a month.

Whiplr Community Feel

This is definitely a hookup app. Although there are groups to join, they seem to be a place for finding out information, not a place to chat with like-minded kinksters. The Whiplr app lives up to being the kinky Tinder.

I need to state in this Whiplr review that If you’re looking for some no-strings-attached play be it online or in real life, this is probably the app for you. It is very BDSM centric, so if your fetish isn’t within that banner, you might find that the Whiplr app isn’t your scene. However, if you’re kinky and Tinder isn’t quite fulfilling your needs, Whiplr might be just what you’re looking for.

As with many of the BDSM dating sites and apps, there seem to be more men than women. As a woman, I got lots and lots of messages, and I’m afraid to say, not all of them particularly respectful. You can block users by going to their profile and clicking the three dots in the top right corner. You can also report them if their messages are particularly unpleasant.  I also received lots of messages from people who hadn’t even glanced at my profile to see what I was interested in but to be fair, every one of those was very gracious when I told them I wasn’t interested.

If you’re not worried about sifting through a few unwanted messages though, there are lots of kink-friendly people on the Whiplr app, and you don’t have to bother with the small talk. Everyone knows you’re kinky.

Is Whiplr Free to Use?

You can use the Whiplr app for free, and you get a trial period of their premium ‘Dekadom’ privileges too, but after your introductory period you might want to upgrade to be able to:

  • Use all search filters
  • Unlimited messages (you can send 5 a day free)
  • Unlimited blocking (you can block 10 users a day for free)
  • Send Voice and video messages
  • Make voice and video calls
  • Send icebreakers and gifts
  • Get access to others private photos
  • Keep notes on other users

If you want to keep up your Dekadom privileges, it costs $9.99 a month via the play store. It’s a rolling contract so be sure you know how to cancel, or you’ll be paying every month for life.  You can find the details of what you need to do in the ‘help’ section which does contain a good deal of useful information.

Whiplr App Review | Final thoughts

So, my Whiplr review is that it’s worth a go if you’re looking for a kinky hookup and a bit of fun play, it might not be the best option if you’re looking for a relationship or a BDSM community to call home though.

You can use the BDSM chat, forums and dating sections on Fetish.com to find your kinky special someone and become part of the fetish community.

Do not use fetish.com

Fetish.com requires you to pay for there membership and provide them with personal photos or they lock your account. I opened an account here on fetish.com and before I had a chance to explore it to see if I liked it my account was locked until I sent phot verification. There is no support on fetish.com. they send out the support help to kayako. So all your personal data is tranfered to a different company.

If you are a female on fetish.com expect to have your account locked for verification that they claim is random but it's not. They lock all female accounts and none of the male ones
