The KNKI App is a new social networking and dating app for all of us that like a bit of spice in the bedroom. It was created by BDSM life-stylers as a way of trying to advance the BDSM community. The creators want to give a healthy, positive view of BDSM, so props to them for that! In this KNKI App review I'm going to see if the app lives up to the company's hype.

KNKI App's Availability

First a bit about availability of the app. It's only available in the English language, so it's mainly used in the US and UK at the moment. But it is available around the world. It's also, obviously, 17+ as adult content is greatly encouraged (consent is important after all!).

KNKI App Review

Clocking in at a low 18MB, the app doesn't take up much space at all. Especially considering the amount of functionality touted by the app.

When you first open KNKI, you'll be greeted with a screen of other users around the world - obviously the home screen once you've signed up! Even though I haven't set up my account yet, I can see members of all shapes, sizes and genders and a wide array of kinks straight away!

KNKI app

There are a number of options for views, filters, and others. However, you need to set up an account in order to access them. But you can access the Fotofeed, without an account.

KNKI App Features: The Fotofeed

The Fotofeed feature is an Instagram-style feed where users post up photos for other users to comment on and talk about. While KNKI intends for this to be a forum to help normalize kink and give users a sense of confidence; right now the Fotofeed is just a wall of selfies. I do hope this changes as the user base gets more comfortable with the app. For now, it's a pretty unique tool in a dating app.

Signing up on KNKI App

When you open an account you're asked the typical questions. Age preference, relationship status, and sexual orientation. There are a few options unique to this app though: "Type I'm seeking", which is the type of lover I'm seeking - Dominant, Slave, Top etc. My "Lifestyle Role", which of those types I am. You'll also need to include height and build (Sub, Master, 5"7' and Athletic, for those wondering!).

Interestingly, while the gender option has Male, Female and Other, the sexual orientation option also has Queer, Pan and Other on top of the regular straight/bi/gay options. This gives a good feel for how inclusive KNKI would like their app to be.

The profile photo needs approval by the app before it's displayed, a nice little touch.

So, now I've set up my account, for this review with my preferences etc.-

What is KNKI app like?

Well firstly, it's important to note that accounts are free to create. There is a premium option that costs £7.99 per month or £69.99 per year. This will give you a larger inbox for messages and allows you to upload more photos. But with the ten that come with a free account, it's unlikely you'd need more. It will also unlock read notifications, like those on Whatsapp, if you're into that.

The home screen is easy to navigate. Members' photos are displayed in a collage format, like IGs search function. The views on the top-left and filters on the top right. Now, even though I've placed in my profile what I'm looking for with preferences, the home screen hasn't updated my filters with this, apart from age group. Which means I have to go through the filters and update them. They do this to make you open your horizons a bit. In which case, it would be a better idea to do, when I've used the app for a while. Then ask if I want to. So it just doesn't auto-link to the profile's filters, which is lazy programming. As well as filters, there's a global and local view, which does the obvious.

Shout-Out Loud on KNKI

When it comes to profiles, there are a few interesting things to note. I like the way the profile screen is laid out. Above the main photo on the profile is the person's stats from their profile, as well as links to Message, Follow, Shout-Out and Unlock (more about that in a mo). Below that is their status, their photo gallery, and their "About me". While Message and Follow do the obvious. Shout-Out is a way of broadcasting someone's profile to your users so that they can follow them or check them out.

On KNKI, you can also put photos on your profile that regular users can't view. Unless you unlock those photos for that user. You can unlock specific photos to specific users, which is a great idea if you have photos tailored to specific kinks!

What's the deal with KNKI app's user base?

As for the user base, it seems wildly varied. From the many profiles I've checked out, and few people I've messaged, the user base seems like 95% real users with the odd advertising bot here and there. What I would note is that even though the user base is rather small, it is very active. Most profiles longest time before login was about 3 days. The app seems to be taking off so now's a good time to jump on!

I hope this KNKI app review has helped. If you're interested, jump on in. It has a free account, an active, if - at the moment - small user base, and has some unique features. Features that might see it take off once it reaches the community at large. While it does have some teething problems. Some of the design colors could be improved for example. The company's aim to normalize kinks is a laudable cause!
