Vexed……

They came with a plight

Like a thief in the night

 

Not this one they say, no that one won’t do

They wanted a “Whore” just like you

 

Digging through prose until one did arise

They snuck right in and claimed their prize

 

No one will notice, no one will see

Let me make those words mine without decree

 

They whisked them away and claimed them as their own

With no acknowledgement of who they cloned

 

Should I offer my kidneys, maybe my panties too?

Sure, why not? let me make it easy for you

 

I have many others; would you like them as well?

If you want to copy me, there is no time to dwell

 

Poetry is awesome as you can see

I can call out a thief who ripped off me

 

I won’t name names as that is too crass

I am not that big of an ass

 

Write your own words, find your own thoughts

Leave mine alone because you were caught

 

Lessons to be learned, stealing is no fun

When your victim catches you, you can all but run

 

Learn from your mistakes and learn how to ask

Don’t claim my words as your own, as that shows no class

 

I will leave it there and say no more

Other than it’s disappointing for sure……

I wrote the above poem after recently discovering one of my own poems had been stolen and that the person who stole it tried to cheekily pass it off as their own.  It was by pure chance I found out and it got me thinking how do you cope with something being taken without consent, whether its prose or a physical object? 

 

I don’t want this topic to become one of shaming as that is not the objective of this thread however, I am interested in your opinions and whether you have ever had something taken through ill gains and how it made you feel at the time.

 

Did you get angry, did you vent, how did it sit with you, how did you move on?

I've had works of mine copied and sold in mass. At the time I went through a range of reactions. I was mad I didn't make any *** from my work. And I was baffled how they could accomplish so much in a concentrated area. But I moved on quickly. I wasn't going to be able to stop that particular problem.

I'm so sorry that happened to you and thank you for sharing.  I am currently doing the same, with a range of feelings about it.   Normally I free write when I need to get things off my chest, it may not look pretty and doesn't take it away but it certainly helps a little.

I haven't had my art stolen, poetry, ***ting, etc., but I've had many people steal my belongings before. It always makes me a little angry, but when that fades, I generally feel pity. I consider why the person felt the need to steal. It usually comes down to them having a devastatingly low opinion of themselves. The person who stole from you can't achieve what you can. When people feel inadequate, they frequently attempt to remedy it by taking from others. This perspective applies from bullying through to plagiarism. It doesn't mean what they do is acceptable or should be forgiven. It just helps me let go of my anger so I can move on for my own sake.

It's very sad that people feel the need to steal your writings /poems PixieDust!
Poem's are safe from me, But I have been known to steal a few memes before.

Thank you for sharing and I am sorry to hear you have had items stolen. You make a good point there and its definitely something to consider when reflecting why and moving forward from it.

Thank you and thank you for sharing.  Memes are a hard one, as many are readily available on our phones messages as gifs, even here at FET we have gifs which makes it very tricky when acknowledging the content creator when its not listed anywhere.  However I think if you know who the creator is, they should definitely be acknowledged so they can receive credit where credit is due and of course permissions asked whether it is ok to share or not.

that poems not their own will soon become lies.

Your words full of beauty, of charm and of wit,

will soon fully expose the talentless twit

When called to say more they just  can't repeat it

words stick in their throat and they have to eat shhhh!
