These days you can get light bulbs that have a remote and let you change color and brightness with a remote. red works very well for erotic play, because it gives enough light to show some shape and curves, but also hides blemishes and imperfections. Mysterious places the light doesnt show well beg for closer investigation and more exposure. you and your partners bodies will tend to look like the best 'porn biz' version of yourselves as possible under sultry red lighting...its a great gift to give to each other. it 100% inspires adventurous behavior. It also passively keeps that mood going. as long as the red light is on, you know what time it is and the action keeps going...you cant really slip out of it on accident, you have to conciously turn it off when youve had enough. Turning the red light off when your done helps rein*** what it means when its turned back on. Yes, we can Pavlov train ourselves if we want, lol. red light also works very well with oil play. Dry red skin looks great. Wet reflective red skin looks amazing.

Somehow, dim red lets people feel the 'safety' of being in the dark...even though there is enough light to make out shapes. This is a big reason candlelight is popular for romantic bed times...its a similar dim yellow/orange. Red is just...extra hot, bulbs are more convenient than candles, and the tech bulbs with custom brightness really help dial in the intensity you want.
