She wore that look again.
The one that said, I'm about to be a problem.
She leaned against the wall with a smirk that dared him to react. "What if I don't?"
He didn't sigh. He didn't argue. He simply crossed his arms and smiled.
"I figured you'd say that."
She blinked.
"That's it? No lecture?"
"No. I planned for you."
The confidence in his voice caught her off guard. Every sarcastic comeback she'd prepared suddenly felt a little less clever.
He took one slow step closer.
"You think I want someone who never challenges me?" he asked. "Where's the fun in that?"
Her grin returned.
"So... you like brats?"
"I like people who make me earn the moment they decide to trust me."
She tilted her head. "And if I keep pushing?"
His smile widened.
"Then I'll keep leading."
For a heartbeat, neither of them spoke.
She rolled her eyes with dramatic flair before letting out an exaggerated sigh.
"Fine..."
"Fine?"
She stepped into his space, unable to hide the smile tugging at the corner of her mouth.
"...Yes, Sir."
He chuckled quietly.
"There she is."
The battle had never been about winning or losing. It was about the dance—the teasing, the challenge, the laughter, and the unspoken understanding that beneath every playful act of defiance was a foundation built on respect, trust, and the certainty that both of them were exactly where they wanted to be.
