The Woman Beneath The Moon- poetry

She comes when the moon is thin,
when the church bells have gone silent
and the cemetery gates
groan open in the wind.
You never hear her arrive.
Only the faint perfume of roses,
the whisper of black lace,
and footsteps somewhere beyond
your bedroom door.
She has watched you for weeks.
From beneath crooked streetlamps.
Through rain-streaked windows.
From the shadows of the old cathedral
where gargoyles keep their secrets.
You thought the darkness protected you.
It was hers long before you entered it.
Every night,
another rose appears.
Deep crimson.
Still wet with rain.
Sometimes there is a note.
Sleep well, darling.
I’m watching.
And sometimes—
nothing at all.
Those nights are worse.
Because silence means
she is close enough
that she doesn’t need to leave a message.
Then one stormy evening,
you find her waiting
inside the abandoned mansion
at the edge of town.
Candles flicker around her.
Black velvet d***s the walls.
Her silhouette stands beneath
a portrait of some forgotten woman,
her eyes following you
with the same cold hunger
as the eyes ***ted above her.
She smiles.
Slowly.
“You finally came.”
You should run.
Every instinct screams it.
But she steps closer,
and the thunder outside
swallows the sound of your heartbeat.
Her gloved fingers lift your chin.
Not roughly.
Almost reverently.
As though you are something precious
she has spent far too long searching for.
“Do you know how beautiful you look
when you’re frightened?”
Her voice is soft.
Velvet.
A promise wrapped around a threat.
She circles you slowly,
like a wolf in a cathedral.
“I’ve memorized you.”
Your breath catches.
“Your habits.”
Another step.
“Your secrets.”
Another.
“Your weaknesses.”
She stops behind you.
Her whisper brushes your ear.
“And eventually, sweetheart…”
A pause.
A smile you can hear.
“I’ll memorize the sound of you
saying my name.”
Lightning illuminates the room.
For one heartbeat,
she looks almost angelic.
Then darkness returns.
And you understand—
The monster was never hiding
under your bed.
She was wearing perfume.
She was sending roses.
She was waiting patiently
for you to open the door.
And the most frightening part?
You did
