Seasonal Depression

Recommended Posts

I am self-aware enough to know when I am slipping off the rails. That being said, I wish I had more friends to provide a support system. I've spent the last 11 years with someone who has isolated me pretty damn well; not only that, but she is not willing to provide the support I need in the absence of it.

I think a lot of us in here understand that it is not necessarily healthy to attempt to be all things to one person. Especially as we are encroaching on the season of darkness, let us keep in mind that the more supports our loved ones have, the less of a chance mental illness has of dragging them down.

I don’t have many friends by choice but it also screws this time of year.

Community, or lack thereof, is one of the biggest causes of depression in modern times. I myself, tend to spend a lot of time alone. But finding new friends and groups is my mission this winter.

Small circles are safe until you (alone) become your whole circle 🤣 the curse of high intelligence I assume?

I challenge you to this, identify people who may not belong in your inner circle (due to lack of intelligence or poor social habits or XYZ) and place them in an outer circle.

Care about them at arms reach.

Use the outer circle for the imperfect, messy, and challenging people who randomly show up, randomly vanish, and are a hot mess when they are available. Sometimes you can accidentally have a good conversation with a ghost of a person and that can be really nice.

You are hitting the prime season right now. I wouldn't wait until winter. Join clubs, do events, start a bunch of new relationship conversations, make as many connections as you can right now, make time for this now, go out for Halloween, find a reason to go to falls festivals, be very available 🤣

We as ***s (in my observation) act exactly as such in regard to mate/friend selection and seasons.

Spring - shed
Summer - regrow
Fall - stock
Winter - hibernation

Spring brings a lot of loss to struggling relationships, but a lot of reassurance to relationships that endure

Summer has more of a self focus internal work and enjoying and exploring and experiencing life

Fall is the 'cuffing season' for a reason, it's when resources are being horded for winter in preparation, this is when a lot of relationships get locked until spring

Winter tends to be reserved, extending comes at a higher cost with less abundance, less daylight, and less energy to share, this is why most relationships aren't broken or created in the winter and also why the end of fall and winter is so hard for depression.
