There are two types commonly used, Violet Wands and Tens.

Violet wands are absolutely amazing do sensation play and are the safer form of electrical play here (though should still be avoided for people with pacemakers), depending on the surface area of the tool attached, it can range from random tingling over an area to a sharp and precise sting.

Tens machines are often a more expensive option due to all the attachments one might want being specialised and needing a metallic contact. This machine will make muscles spasm at intervals. I've used such just using a pad just above me and a partners crotch and the way it traveled through us was sublime. Metal dildos, butt plugs etc. all make for different experiences. Just remember not to have it cross over the heart and it's safe enough.

Are violet wands still available? I remember at a munch a guy produced one, but it was an 'antique' which he'd managed to find somewhere and it wasn't cheap. There used to be a UK Informed Consent and thanks to instructions there I made my own toy by adapting an electronic fly swatter (essentially just the handle with wires protruding). To answer NaughtyNat's question : réactions vary. Some hardly feel anything, others really flinch.

I have a few e-stim powerbox and I love I it but you need to be real carefull... Its not a toy for those who stop using their big brains when the small brain take over during doing kinky stuff...

And of you have medical issue like if you have a pacemaker or a DBS you must NOT use tens or e-stim as it could damage or deregulate those machines and possible death....

I would love to have a nice lady to find the possible setups....edging and sensory deprivation won't be the same with e-stim.

You can if you search for Tesla Wands, they aren't cheap even for modern ones.  Iv'e seen cheaper ones new online but dubious as to their quality.   

The Prof on IC many moons ago used to be to go to for wand info and repairs, but im going back 20 years now so not sure if this person is still around.

I used to own a vintage wand set, they had a double purpose, not only the actual fee and effect, but the noise they made added extra stimulus.  

Duel Channel Tens were great for the control you could get using four pads of various settings.  You can still get these in Boots the Chemists in the UK plus replacement pads for hygiene.

But with all electro stimulation play i advise "READ UP, ASK and LEARN" they can be dangerous if used wrong.

I have a lot of experience with the estim pebble dual channel model and attachments. The electro anal plug goes from mild tingling sensations through to feeling of heavy thrusting. The nipple attachments muck it feel as if you have pulsed nice clamps, almost a biting feel. The pads across the vagina gives a mixture between the 2 sensations above depending where exactly they are put. A TENS machine properly used can give a similar effect. 

Whatever, poorly maintained devices can be dangerous.

Cheap Chinese import stuff is best avoided IMHO.

I still have and use a 'Prof's Magic box" :-) He was an electrical genius and knew all about safety, so could use it on upper parts.

It's a small box with two wires coming out, dials for speed and intensity.  Sub holds one of the connectors in her hand, I hold the other in my hand and when I touch it creates the circuit.  Hands are less sensitive than other parts of the body.  The amount I touch increases or decreases the intensity.  Especially good if you let the contact point be the hairs on the back of your hand.  very 'focused' ;-)

I like it because I get a feel through my hand delivering the level of sensation.  Two other things i like about it.  I hold it in my other hand and to activate it I press and hold a button, if I let go it cuts off.

It's also very good to introduce electrics to someone new.  If the sub drops the connector she is holding then the circuit is immediately dropped.  So it's an immediate safe word (without words).  Now when more advanced you connect the one she was holding to a different part of her body and have full control :-)

I actually built my own unit from a design I found on the internet - definitely the cheapest option.   I used 4 old 1.5 volt batteries (6v total) and could ramp the voltage to where it got pretty ***ful - had to be careful with that.   But at the lower settings, it was quite pleasurable.

One thing to remember - be very careful if you stick the pads anywhere near your chest area.   It doesn't take alot of voltage to cause your heart to stop so you better know what you're doing if you're going to play in that area.
