The abyss

I can feel it happening, I know when it’s starting.

The darkness looks inviting and welcoming and there’s no stress here only the noises of my mind.

I need to escape. I want to escape the relentlessness of the world. The way that time keeps moving while I’m stood still.

And then there’s you.

You pulled me from darkness and showed me light.

But we slipped apart. I couldn’t continue and I fell from your grasp.

And then there was darkness again, the abyss, the looming chasm where nothing else exists and I survive in my own fog. I breathe, my heart beats, I move but I don’t live. I don’t feel anymore.

Is it better here? It’s safer. I can’t hurt in this place. But I can’t feel.

I need the light, but I have to find a way to want it and to reach for it alone.

And that’s the scariest part of all.

Not just surviving but doing it alone.
