If you go back to them (even after long breaks) that only means you like some variety in your kinks... nobody objects to switches changing from dominant to submissive and vice versa, ditto bisexuals moving from gay to straight and vice versa. Why should anyone be upset if your kinks change? As long as you are honest and keep an open conversation going, I would not have any problems with it (hypothetically, if we were in a relationship, and you kept me informed, if the time came that we were incompatible I would offer to end the relationship on good terms and stay friendly, rather than anything else)
