Interesting question... In a D/s dynamic there is negotiated power exchange, between 2 people, and a partner that willingly submits.

IRL the terms are socially negotiated and everyone wields their power as individuals, which will mean that the 'dominant' role will change depending on the interaction?

We've all likely got a Boss, can't really be Dominant over your Boss...but you can be assertive, forthright and direct with them...
