Experience in rope tying

For the first few times, I don’t recommend tying anyone to objects like poles or bed frames. If you restrict their body from moving at all and you make the ropes tight, they can panic or feel trapped. And if you’re not careful, the tight knots could cut off some circulation to their limbs. The solution would either be to only restrain one half of their body (like both legs or both arms), or tie their body to other parts of their body! That way (they can adjust as they see fit). Lastly, look into breast harnesses! You can tie ropes on someone without having to restrain them! A breast harnesses is just like tying a bra, it looks super sexy while involving ropes, and still gives you experience tying knots!

Best of luck in the journey, it’s a fun one!! The most important thing is trust. As long as you communicate, the rest will figure itself out :)

Visit a shibari class, it’s essential to learn about safety from a pro. YT has some beginner videos too✌️

Dont start with suspension, what I would do is a karada harnest first and you could use another rope to tie un arms in her back or front. You can use the second rope to connect with the harnest.

Thank you for the advice! I was going to try just upper body first. So I will def look into the breast harness!

I have been watching Lazarus Redmayne on YT for a bit now that was recommended by someone who’s prolly at the intermediate level I would say. I’ve done one Shibari class at a festival many years ago. Unfortunately I have not been able to find anything in my area though

There is an app called shibari study that you can download and pay for and it has some great classes taught by some great riggera

I use nylon rope rather than the traditional hemp. One should invest in good hardware. I have a stainless steel swing bolted to 6-inch rafters. In my case I purchased mountain climbing pulleys to create a compound lift point, 3-inch stainless steel rings and a 8-inch stainless steel triskele. Beyond this there are some good books such as Evie Vane's

Thank you. I haven't yet. So this is so helpful.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet, budget more rope than you'd use on a slimmer frame. The same wrap runs short fast once the circumference goes up, so plan for that before you start. Past that the technique itself doesn't really change. Keep it snug not tight, you should always be able to slide two fingers under any wrap, and check by actually feeling temperature and color instead of just asking if they're okay, people say fine when they're not more than you'd think. Stretching beforehand helps too. Rope adapts to whoever's in it once those basics are solid, that part's true no matter the body

It can be done, just depends on your sub. I've looked to see if there's any tips for plus size women but I didn't find anything useful

Hi ☺️ If you have access to an in-person instructor, try to attend to a beginners class! If you don’t, Shibari Study is an awesome source of knowledge. You need to start with the safety basics, and their online class about it is free. If you’re doing that for sexual purposes, maybe you can try self adesive tapes too. They’re super easy to find and use. In general, don’t overcomplicate things, mainly if you’re using ropes. Also, rope material is important, NEVER use synthetic materials, like nylon. Jute or hemp ropes are preferable, cotton ropes are okayish for simple ties (or for genitals, since you can wash them).

My advice to new rope tops and bottoms.
Learn basics before anything else
1 What rope are you using ? Nylon, hemp, jute?
What are the pros and cons of your rope.
2 Then learn about the safety aspect.. what are common injuries? Wrist drop nerve damage?
3 negotiating a rope scene or practice
4 learn a single column tie, then the most important part of rope in my opinion is starting your journey on the knowledge of correct tension while tying.
Remember it’s all about have ing fun and keeping your bottom informed and safe.
Have a great day

Practice tieing rope onto rope to extend it. More skin to cover means more rope length. It’s good to be proficient in the action so when you’re in the moment you can do it smoothly.
