And she was his muse.

She always greeted him with the same quiet tenderness, leaning forward just enough for her presence to linger in the space between them. When he reached for the clasp, her stillness was never quite still—there was the faintest shift of breath, the soft rise of her shoulders, as if her body had learned to anticipate his touch before it arrived. The small, unmistakable click of metal fastening never failed. It echoed in the hush between them, and she felt it more than she heard it—a delicate jolt that traveled the length of her neck, settling low and slow at the base of her spine, unfolding a little further each time as though her body remembered what her mind refused to name.

Now, the teasing was no accident.

She knew exactly what she was doing. The subtle lift of her chin, the unhurried way her lashes lowered before she looked at him again, the soft sound of her breath caught between thought and intention—it was all carefully unguarded. Even her silence had weight to it, shaped by awareness. She had learned the effect her voice had on him, how even the gentlest words seemed to land with precision, loosening something in him he worked so hard to keep intact.

And he, in turn, had begun to notice the smallest things: the pause before she spoke, the way her fingers lingered near her collar as if remembering his touch, the quiet satisfaction that flickered across her expression when he faltered, just slightly, in his composure.
