One that is interesting is Nancy Friday's "My Secret Garden" which is a collection of interviews of women's secret fantasies. She did 2, one in 1973 and another in 1980s. Its interesting to see how fantasies evolved over the change in society.

"The book revealed that women fantasize as frequently and intensely as men, often with transgressive or complex themes."

BEFORE ANYBODY ELSE COMMENTS… read the post. I’m looking for educational, nonfictional material. And I explicitly stated I did not want much spice or erotica. Thanks for your suggestions that don’t meet that criteria, I’m just not interested in reading that content

Here are 2 recs, not in any order and aimed at whole approach far above dynamics but does touch d/s or adjacent factors. This is more structure, not how to operate within kink, but in understanding the systems kink operates within. The summaries below are not my words they are copied from online.

#1
General Theory of Love
(Thomas Lewis, Fari Amini, and Richard Lannon)

This original and lucid account of the complexities of love and its essential role in human well-being draws on scientific research. Three psychiatrists tackle the difficult task of reconciling what artists and thinkers have known for thousands of years about the human heart with what has been learned about the primitive functions of the human brain.
A General Theory of Love demonstrates that our nervous systems are not self-contained: from earliest childhood, our brains link with those of the people close to us in a silent rhythm that alters the structure of our brains, establishes lifelong emotional patterns, and makes us, in large part, who we are. It explores how relationships function, how parents shape their child's developing self, how psychotherapy works, and how society can conflict with essential emotional needs.

#2
Behave: The Biology of Humans at Our Best and Worst (Robert M. Sapolsky)
A landmark examination of human behavior centered on the question: Why do we do the things we do?
Sapolsky, a neuroscientist and primatologist, moves across multiple disciplines to uncover the ***s behind human actions. He examines difficult subjects including tribalism and xenophobia, hierarchy and competition, and war and peace, synthesizing research to explain why humans ultimately behave as we do—for good and for ill.
In short: A General Theory of Love examines how relationships and emotional connection shape the brain and self, while Behave examines the biological, neurological, developmental, social, and evolutionary ***s that produce behavior.

Thanks so much! That’s for sure the type of reading I’m looking for. I appreciate the response!
