App Related - what is the relevance of “weight”

Recommended Posts

I am 5ft9 , 78 kg ( 172 lbs) - according to traditional BMI scale I am obese.
But as per new height to waist ratio, 0.46 , I am fit as an Iron Man.

So question is - What is the relevance of “weight” in my information here on this app ?

You can easily guess by pictures if someone’s body type is to your liking or not !!!
So why still there ?

Hey @Dave-Lothbrok ... Thanks for raising the question.

The weight field is simply one of the optional pieces of information members can choose to add to their profile. It isn't intended as an assessment of someone's fitness, health or body type.

Photos don't necessarily provide the same information either, as not everyone uploads a photo showing their full body – and some members don't upload profile photos at all.

For members who consider weight relevant when browsing profiles, the information can therefore be useful. For those who don't, it can simply be ignored. And if you don't feel that your weight is relevant information about you, you don't have to provide it – the field is optional and can be left blank.

We hope this helps clarify why the option is available.

Thank you Carmen.

You don't have to fill out everything on your profile, if you don't want it displayed, simply leave it blank. If you've filled out a category and change your mind and want it removed, you can change that too.

Question is not about requirement or optionality to include oneself’s detail- it is about relevance .
If it is indeed relevant to you , sure :) 👍🏼

I understand what you are getting across since I fall into the same category. To be fair, anyone who is filtering based off a number on the scale isn't someone I would want to associate with anyways so it almost acts as a protection. The only reason I would ever really care about weight is simply to know on if I can deadlift their weight. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Because people care about physical traits. Women care about height, men care about weight. You obviously care about your own weight, since you are asking the question in the first place. Height to weight ratio or pictures, says zero about your actual physical condition or weight.

And a lot of people don’t even have pictures, not that you could make an accurate estimate based on pictures either.

The real question here is one you should ask yourself. And that question is, why do I care and why am I asking this question? Because it seems to be for confirmation from other people that you are not fat.

I'm 6ft 4 and 220lbs and according to BMI, like you I'm considered obese but if you see my pics I'm a million miles from that. Not sure it's obligatory to add your weight but all should be taken in context

Incorrect. This would result in a BMI of 26.8, placing you on the lower end of the overweight category. Obese is a BMI of 30.0 and up. OPs BMI is even lower, at 25.4, barely making the overweight category.

Maybe you all should put your insecurities aside and be content you only have a high body fat percentage, instead of fishing for confirmation from strangers.

What kind of incel podcast bullshit is that? Show your ***r reviewed sources.
And BMI is horseshit. No reputable doctor takes it seriously anymore. Fitness culture is a scam.

Care about. Please learn how to read before you have a hissy fit. It’s basic biology and physical attraction.

BMI is very commonly used as a quick screening tool in medical professions in the west, although rarely on its own.

It’s not obligatory . But my point is that weight must be in context. As you say you are obese by BMI just like me but we both know that’s not true .
So why not -
Muscular
Athletic
Average
Lean
Dad bod

There are plenty of usually like dad bods and honestly that’s totally fine :) . Each to their own :) .

My weight fluctuates a little too much for my ‘tism to feel like I wouldn’t be lying if I answered that question 😂

Not at the moment, but up until about a year ago, my height:weight ratio put my BMI in the overweight range. Not sure if it was technically obese or not but I’m honestly too old to gaf about looking at a number on the scale. Do my clothes fit? Would I be comfortable letting someone see me nekkid?

Those are really the only two things I ask myself before I worry about voluntarily stepping on a scale anymore 🤷🏻‍♀️

BMI doesn’t mean anything if you’re on the fit of the scale

MODERATOR NOTE:

A number of posts have been removed because they resorted to insults.  Argue your points without insulting another user.

im 5'8 195 and sculpted.
the BMI to me has always been an acronym that starts with "bullshit."

BMI on a scale does not accurate so don’t take that too seriously A more realistic range for many men is roughly:

* 150–165 lb: lean
* 165–180 lb: average to solid build
* 180–195 lb: muscular or broad build

I just didn't answer it bc why would that matter?!?!?

Because some people want to be thrown around by someone who isn’t victim weight.

I like to play rough and therefore look at a person's weight when viewing profiles. Not to say that men with a slim build aren't capable of tossing me around, I just have more of a preference to men who are comparable to a brick house is all 🤷‍♀️
