The only aspect that no one thus far from either camp has addressed, is why those "Catfished" people then feel the need to advertise the predicaments they were in due to their own lack of actions / preparedness.

That's a big question in general

I suspect a mixed bag.  Some might want to do it as a "hey, not everyone is who they say", some might do it for sympathy.  Some for reasurance that they weren't silly for having hope/trust.  Like if no one ever told these stories, we wouldn't know it happens

Maybe to a degree, while there are steps they could have taken. It's not their fault someone flaked (a vid chat might not have fixed that) it's  not their fault someone set to deceive them.    Incidentally, I got an ad today advertising an AI product which people could use to stream as their AI charecter - though it is maybe farfetched, but not impossible, for someone to do that to catfish

Umm... if a guy gets on video chat and is acting gross... didn't he just save you the time to know who he is and what he is about? And if he's demanding before, during, or after... again, he just saved you a lot of time. Block and done.

Or you can actually communicate with a person for x amount of time before rushing into meeting them. It doesn't take long for the mask to slip and reveal the real person behind the persona.

Or, and this is a wacky thought, write something on your profile description. That's the best way to filter out fakes and phonies. A profile like mine will only attract genuine, intelligent women. Trust me.

Maybe, but it is effectively sexual harassment.  Perhaps if someone asks to video chat and the other person says no, and they flake off it saves even more time :)

Nothing saves more time than just not doing it period.

I got catfished, by an actual catfish! Theyre tired of being fried and humanity is about to experience a reckoning....

Personally it's really not that important for me to know what you look like. I don't look like my profile pictures (I'm not an actual werewolf 😱) and I have met people for dinner without exchanging even a picture. I have extremely hard boundaries of public places, not being physical until after we meet a few times, etc, but in reality you can be catfished by someone for years who lives in your home or even shares your last name. Why people falsify visual representation is odd to me when it's obvious at the first sight, but maybe that's just not my kink. FR, just lie about your personality or loyalty like everyone else 🤣🤣🤣 catfish 2.0. If we get along great if not that's fine too, the driving 2 hours to be 'catfished' seems like a lot of expectations for sex or something that got in the way of safe boundaries and safety in general. People are cheating in 10 year marriages and you expect honesty from an online encounter you met 3 days ago. Please be careful 🙏🏽.

I did a little deepdive earlier today

Like I say, I've been getting ads on FB for tech where you select a 'charecter' and they mimic your movement and change your voice on stream.   They are however, not great, cos they're meant for 'fun' not elaborate ruses

But still. There is tech that is there.  So on the kinda note of video calls, I would treat them as a potential tool in the box, not an entire kit

It's kinda also that... a lot of the stuff the fake videos struggle to deal with are stuff most normal people would be frustrated by someone asking.  "put a spoon on your head", "spin round while holding up 3 fingers", whatever - if it's a real person they'd be annoyed and if it's an any form of AI all it does is train them this is the sort of shit people ask for - bit like how counting the fingers no longer works.... and the skin glow soon won't.

I aint saying nothing is wrong or right, but it's context.  Also sometimes, take initiative on showing you're real, drop a voice note - send an up to date picture (face/clothed) it can sometimes prompt the other person to do the same

Mind, as I say - you can go through phone calls, videos, etc - come the day, there can still be cold feet and no shows

Me personally I actually put people's photos into Google and do a search to make sure they are real and I always ask for a video chat before meeting up. To me as a woman that is some common sense safety stuff right there. You hear all these horror stories about people going missing, etc etc why wouldn't you do that first for your personal safety let alone being catfished?
