Is it dangerous to attach a lead to a gag?

I've been wanting to attach a lead to a gag recently but I had a feeling it might be dangerous. Like maybe I'll break my neck or something I'm not sure. I tried to Google this and came up with nothing and I also haven't really noticed it in porn (not that that's the best example). So is it dangerous and if so how dangerous? Me and my partner have been playing around with bondage for a few years and we use both bit and ball gags often but wouldn't call us experts.

Me and my partner have been playing around with bdsm for a few years privately but we aren't in the community so apologies if this sounds dumb. Recently I've been wanting to attach a lead to the back of a gag so my head can be controlled but I'm worried I could injure my neck like that. I tried googling it but I couldn't find an answer and I also don't think I've seen it in porn at all (I know that's not a great example). So I was just wondering if it is dangerous and of so how much? Also if there are any steps we could take to make it less dangerous.

We use both bit gags and ball gags regularly and we're very comfortable using them.

No question is a stupid question. And the short answer to yours is No it's not dangerous to attach a lead to a gag.

That said, there is an element of risk with ALL BDSM play.
The level of risk comes from what happens next and it really depends on what you do with it when it's attached. If you yank the lead hard enough then yes you could do harm. But if you use it to gently guide then the risk is minimal.  Then there is everything in between. Just be sensible, have fun and do what works for the two of you.

Exactly all of this. We all start from somewhere and asking is a great way to learn.

And everything else said I would ascribe to too. COULD it be harmful? Yes I yanked too hard or repeatedly. But is it intrinsically harmful? No. It can be done without any harm or issues.

Find what works for you and if you’re concerned start out gently and build how you use things up gradually over time and with practice.

I'd imagine it would be ok, as long as the person pulling the leash isnt pulling it wrecklessly.

I'm inexperienced myself, more so than you.
But the first thought I had was in regards to a ring-gag and the teeth. Or if the leash was ever attached in the front of the gag, where it also could be an issue with teeth.

Someone with more experience could debunk or confirm these concerns.

I would look at head harness gags for that sort of thing rather than a normal gag

There are dangers with all the things we do. Our job, and I do mean Our (both Dom and sub) are to minimize risk by assessing as many possible scenarios and mitigating potential mishaps to avoid ***.
Go for it. If you think you can manage it safely, go for it. Just consider what activities you'll be doing while the lead is on and make conscious agreements what can't be done.
Don't lock off the leash. Unlike hair ties that attach to, say... an anal hook, a ball gag involves the potential of jaw injuries.
Yes, we can assume that nothing bad can go wrong when things go "as planned" but it's what isn't planned that all these safety mitigations are necessary for... falling down, uncontrolled movement when orgasming, sub crawling the wrong way momentarily while Dom leads in another direction, etc. the neck and jaw are a terrible thing to injure.

Play safe and have an amazing time.

I think the fact that you're concerned enough about safety to ask these questions means you're probably on the right track tbh
