Tattoos on hairy bodies?

Recommended Posts

So I'm back in the gym consistently and I'm trying to cut weight. As reward for losing the weight and hitting my goal I am getting my first of probably five to six tattoos, the only thing I can see to be a problem would be the fact that I look like a bear and Sasquatch had a baby. I've read that some artist prefer shaving that area themselves but that hair will eventually grow back, should I get all my hair removed or just let it grow back over the tattoos?

Any reputable tattoo artist is going to shave the area to be tattooed. It's part of the process. The hair will grow back, it's up to you if you want to continue shaving it so that the tattoo(s) are more visible. I have 2 on my chest and moderately hairy in that area and I just let the fur be

If you shave the area yourself and mess it up…… nick it etc…… they won’t be able to tattoo it. Leave it to the artist. As per previous comment it’s then up to you whether you let the hair grow back

You CAN'T tattoo properly without shaving. Its like preparing a wall for ***t. If you start with the ***t, and not the sheetrock... like, what are you doing 🤔
I'm hairy too, my fair complexion saves a lot of the artists' fantastic work. Every artist in the 20 tats I have, always had to saturate, saturate, saturate... they said "into your Rhinohide, you call skin" 😆.
Id say lighter colors, but pick pieces that have lots of color contrast, pick an artist who can shade, and if possible... does great portrait work. Those folks have the details, skill and truth about themselves and their art..to tell you what is best for YOUR skin...not their wallet. Best wishes brother. Be blessed y'all. Happy Holidays

Depending on when you want to get it done, start shaving the area in prep 🤷🏼‍♂️ there’s no harm in it that I can think of? Other than clothes feeling weird, and it might look a bit weird… just leave it for a couple of weeks before going for the tattoo to let them shave it down before tattooing you.

Any reputable tattoo artist will shave you during the session. Any hairs that get caught up in the machine can cause problems and infections. If you are super hairy, you could trim it back a week or 2 ahead of time so it's a bit easier for the artist, and when I doubt, ask your artist what to do, especially if it's a very sensitive area.
Once the tattoo is healed fully, I personally like to shave my tattoos when I know I'm going somewhere that I wanna show them off since I have bold color and it definitely pops more after shaving and lotioning!

I'm a Tattoo Artist, and yeh I would leave it to the artist, my back gets mega hairy so I just clipper mine off on a grade zero every couple of weeks. If ur getting ur back tattooed then you will want to do that really so you can show off the work!! I don't even have my back tattooed yet but I still do it, tbh I do it over my whole body, arms/ legs everywhere, cus I have like 70% of my body done. So it's just nice to see all the work. N tbh it makes me feel clean lol.
But yh leave it to the artist mate. We have enough razors to get through it, some studios even have clippers for the super hairy ones haha
