To gift items you need to find someone with 0 icons. Below this 0 Icons count you will be given the opportunity to gift one. If you do, one will be selected at random from your hoard. You can then recollect this icon. The gallery under your personal grid shows the number that person has gifted. Andy must be close to 10k now.

I know I was given this link, but ages ago. Has FET stopped making it available? I think it was only on the website, not the app - come to think of it, that's a suggestion: search within comments. Hundreds of comments in this thread and "previous comments" loads a handful at a time. Those of us who can't log in regularly haven't a hope.

I have found all except number 4. I don't remember ever getting so close to the full complement before. Tantalising!
