1.  Can anyone guess how old the oldest documented sex toy is?

• Apparently, everyone has been getting the rocks off since 29000BC!
• A paleolithic stone phallus was discovered by the archaeologist Petra Kieselbach in the Hohle Fels Cave, Southwest Germany.

 

Did you know - The first vibrator came into use in the conservative Victorian era as a treatment for female patients who suffered from so-called hysteria which was administered by doctors.

Hysteria was commonly used as an umbrella diagnosis for women who suffered from a variety of emotional conditions ranging from depression to anxiety and further afield.

• Is the toy aging, look for irregularities in material? Is it time to retire an old toy
• Dirty toys – do not use – unwashed toys are contaminated with bacteria
• Battery damage
• Check your toys have a waterproof rating

 

4.  How do you care for your sex toys? What’s the best way to clean and store your toys safely? 

• Read toy instructions on do’s and don’ts
• Wash after use, do not store when unclean
• Clean with warm soapy water or a good Anti-bacterial toy cleaner (Sex store will often recommend a cleaner with purchase) If using soap go with a mild, unscented hand or dish soap
• Some toys can be put in the dishwasher for example silicone whereas others can be warped by extreme heat changes
• Note: If your toys are battery operated do not submerge fully in water unless 100% waterproof otherwise toy can be permanently damaged.
• Try not to use harsh chemicals on them such as bleach for example unless you are cleaning a stainless-steel toy. If using bleach, make sure toy is washed and rinsed thoroughly.
• Is your toy porous or non-porous – check the material the toy is made from as it will determine how you safely clean the surface
• Try to store in bag, or cloth, in dark place
• Do not store toys touching each other, can degrade the material
• Remove batteries prior to storing, to avoid damage and battery leakage

 

5.  What are important points to remember when using toys?

• Don't use silicone or oil-based lubes with silicone toys
• Check lube ingredients make sure compatible with toys
• Use a condom with porous toys -  porous materials can include hard plastic, neoprene, jelly rubber, vinyl and soft vinyl, acrylic, leather. cyberskin, nylon
