The importance of taking care after

What is subdrop? Is it like a trance or hypnosis? Is this in some part a roleplay thing as well?

Sub drop ( & Dom drop) are when the endorphins wear off, the dopamine drops.. It's the mental and emotional drop from the high of the scene to the "regular" you. How long it lasts, how intense it is & how one reacts to it varies depending on various factors including the needs of the sub (or Dom), the type of scene, the duration of play amongst others. Sometimes it can kick in immediately and sometimes it can take a few days, depending again on so many variables. I've had Doms check in on me several days later just to make sure I was ok cuz there wasn't an initial significant drop.
How does aftercare impact subdrop? It eases the transition, the drop, back down to your baseline. It makes it happen slower & is easier to handle.

Like I said earlier I’m way new to the dom sub idea but I guess I’m not familiar with a sexual experience that would require such aftercare or have such a drop. Can you give an example of what kind of experience or scene would cause such a high then drop?

This surely varies from person to person. But for me it isn't only dependent on the intensity of the action that goes on. But rather on the intensity of the interpersonal dynamic. In this recent situation, what caused the intensity wasn't what happened sexually per se. It wasn't the first time I used a dildo, it wasn't the first time I used this particular one (which is the most beautiful, wonderful, amazing one I possess!!). But it was the first time that I played with this man after two years of no play. I was very hesitant in the beginning but then started to open up and then managed to do something that should have hurt tremendously because I did it for his approval. Such a dynamic can push you to superhuman abilities and you are in a different world. Then comes the orgasm, which again can be a heightened kind of orgasm. I couldn't stop laughing and shaking for an hour after it.

So there seem to be extreme physical results to an extreme emotional connection. And unsupervised, they will lessen dramatically over time (hours, days..) and then suddenly there is this drop. As if the brain has to recalibrate. If your Dom could help you recalibrate in a gentle way, that would be very helpful.

An example? Well, that depends on the person, what they're doing, how intense it is & as @jinxed mentioned, the dynamic with the partner.. I've had sub drop many times, but not to the super extent where it still impacts days later...
So for me, it's been impact play, anal sex, & light CNC that I can think of off the top of my head.

@FemmeFatale87for me, sub drop happened after a particularly long session (longer than I was used to) and intense and stressful psychologically and physically (we had tried things we hadn’t tried before). I was exhausted after the session. The sub drop didn’t really hit for about an hour after we had ended the scene. I needed to be caressed and talked to, to combat the alone feeling. The sub drop ended when we ventured out to get greasy fast food, French fries helped! I learned that food and drink help me coming back to baseline. Not sure if the two experiences are actually mechanistically related, but I used to get panic attacks sometimes after 10-mile runs, and helping to get my *** sugar and electrolyte levels back up helped. Even if they’re different biological processes, they felt similar to me — long durations of continuous mental and physical focus followed by an overwhelming bodily/brain response, and needing outside intervention to ease back to baseline.
