How to identify yourself as a Dom

Recommended Posts

Im finding it hard to put a precise Dom label on myself. There are aspects of being a Daddy Dom that I strongly identify with such as caring for my sub as well my preferred method of punishment being spanking. However, I am really into DDLG.

I enjoy aspects of Master/Slave, though I prefer to be called Daddy and outside of certain rules and punishments, I want my sub to make their own decisions and do things they like without requiring my permission.

The obvious path that I fit into is Brat Tamer, but I enjoy the additional elements from other avenues.

Do other Doms have this issue? Any advice or anecdotes that could help me communicate this to would be subs so that there is no miscommunication?

As someone who’s been a full-time Dom for years, my advice is simple….don’t get too caught up in labels. Daddy Dom, Brat Tamer, and Master aren’t mutually exclusive. You can embrace elements of each while developing your own style of dominance.

True dominance isn’t about controlling every decision. It’s about leadership, trust, structure, and knowing when to guide and when to give your sub independence.

When speaking with potential subs, focus less on titles and more on your expectations, boundaries, rules, and approach to discipline. Compatibility comes from understanding the dynamic, not the label.

Let your dynamic define your title, not the other way around.

I’d genuinely enjoy hearing more about what draws you to each dynamic. Feel free to reply here or message me privately. I’m always open to a deeper conversation about dominance and what experience teaches us beyond the labels.

I suggest to my partners that they don’t call me anything they don’t feel. From that, the labels sort themselves. There are at least a dozen kinds of BG/LG/AB/SB “girl” style submissives, and every one unique. And the same is true for “daddy” style dominants. No label will ever capture it, in my opinion. The label just ***ts a general picture, from which the two of you determine compatibility and negotiate.

This!! As a Fairy Kink Mother I am always telling people to not get caught up in labels. Part of that, beyond what Torsten99 said, is because you don't know what their perception of the labels will be. Kink is ever-evolving!

Tell free to reach out to me, too!

This is often why people use just "Dominant" as a catch-all (or "submissive" on the other side) you can elaborate a little more on a profile, or when chatting with someone - but a lot of labels can end up taking you down a wild goose chase.

Feel free*

The ‘dominant’ is more of an umbrella term. Just like preferences, there is no black and white or one shoe fits all. There are layers. And you can be a little bit into this and a lil bit into that, and still a dominant.
What you identify the most is what you go with. For example: I call myself a dollmaker dom. Bcs I mostly into dollmaking.
But Im also a caregiver and a sadist. This other layers are explained thoroughly in your bio and especially—when on talking stage.

Cant edit post, but I meant to write I am NOT into DDLG. Hence some role confusion when I get messages and requests

Thank you for such a thoughtful response. This makes a lot of sense and I think I was overthinking it a bit.

My draw to the Daddy side is mostly personality. Ive always been empathetic and cared deeply about the well being and growth of my partners regardless of how short a relationship has been. Im naturally protective and nurturing.

On the Brat Tamer/Master side of things, firstly I enjoy the dynamic and banter of being with bratty girls. Its playful, fun, and can be very endearing. As for the punishment, I love the complete control over the sub when administering a spanking. Its not just the control I have in that moment, but the control and trust being given. To have that level of trust from someone is very powerful, and i greatly appreciate it when its given.

Every Dom is different. It's finding the right combination for you and your sub, not everything is going to match. You seem to find yourself falling into various categories, some more than others, and that is normal, don't lock yourself into one and don't be afraid to explore others if it feels right.

The thing you are having trouble with is communicating what you are into. I if a title only fits a little bit, talk about what part was opposed to the whole thing. At the same time don't be afraid to say "I am only a little bit into daddy dom but would love to talk about your desires." Be open about yourself and remember to highlight your strengths, focus on what you would like and you will better find the people that are into what you are.

I too like many different elements of Dominant. But also dislike others! I do not like the term “ Brat Tamer “ for example! This dynamic does not appeal to me at all! Also I love giving Spankings and with consent love leaving marks/bruises, and giving aftercare is a must! I prefer Submissives that can think outside of our relationship and voice their feelings and opinions when prompted! I have gone as far as picking out daily outfits. Lol Dominance to me is building Trust by communication and patience! Providing that Safe atmosphere where zero retribution is given for expression is a fair trade off!
