Filters, there is a huge variety, allow the user to change things, show different things, and honestly do not change their "natural beauty " as you so call it.

Lots of people use filters because they feel like using filters.

I don't use filters myself, but some people have an idea in their mind of how they look and then edit out whatever doesn't fit. So self esteem stuff?

And some people just crave attention. I know I do, but attention for a picture I don't look like would actually not do anything for me. For me it has to be nice and true. 🌸

Confidence is a mentality. I spent way too many years with someone who I allowed to make me self conscious about my appearance, so there are like no pictures of me in existence from that time.

I’m completely confident in person and have no problem going out in public with a messy bun and no makeup at my big age, but I have a lingering tendency to pick apart my appearance in a still image. Whatever. I’m a girl 🙄😂

I have no problem admitting I throw a light filter on a picture if it means I have a few more pictures of myself with my kids and friends since I barely have any from when my kiddos were little.

I have some grey hair and wrinkles that don’t honestly bother me, but seeing them in pictures tends to make me start thinking about how much of a toll the stress and chaos I existed in for so long took on me. So I don’t ruin a beautiful moment by crying about how I look in a picture. Weird, I know, but it’s not like I’m not aware that it’s a filter and if it doesn’t fuck with my head or make me want to burst into tears, just let me have that, would ya?
🙄😝

I also feel weird taking selfies at my age. Listen, I’m not ugly, but why stress myself out over taking a decent picture to impress someone when I spend 99% of my time not worrying what anyone else thinks about my appearance? I’m too old for that crap 😛

Personal choice, confidence or just for fun

Honestly because some of us were with men who stole our confidence with their words and actions and now we can’t look at a picture of ourselves without seeing all the flaws. *** tends to hurt more than just the little girl inside, it hurts the women we were supposed to be. So if we use filters to enhance our appearance it’s not for you, it’s for us.

I despise filters! It's overly used and doesn't show the true nature of the person(s). I don't think it's appealing, especially when most individuals are able to take good photos.

I also don't know why they're heavily needed in personal dating apps! It signifies "false advertisement" but technology continues to enhance these features and people *** it!

Because people are self conscious about every single thing they see in themselves. Because people see that one mark, one scar, that one line on their face every day, and they believe that that will be the first thing that a stranger will notice. Because we as society have pushed the idea of showing perfection, not only in appearance but also mentally, monetarily, & successfulness. We have forgotten that humans are flawed creatures, and flaws can be beautiful.

Also why do they always think they look the best in the bathroom. Nothing says sexy than big roll being in view 🤣🤣

Because they're fun and we want to 🤷🏻‍♀️

Maybe to hide from the world or they feel they aren't good looking enough just 2 reasons off the top of my head I don't use filters I'm a 56 year old cross dresser and proud of it

They don't see most of the time. I suffer from body dysmorphia terribly but it's something you have to over come with all the flaws you may see in yourself

False advertising, I met a girl on here and when we actually met , it didn't even look like her, that is absolutely ridiculous, I just don't get it. I feel it's a betrayal on trust, what else you hiding.

I often wonder the same thing 🫶

Because society has made it normal I do it because I have skin issues I try to hide the red splotchyness on my face plus growing up I was always told I was not pretty my brother's picked on me hot so hard and so did other kids that I started believing it I still believe it almost days
Society has dictated a standard of beauty that most feel the need to uphold. This standard has caused so much insecurity, but once people that it is truly devastating to bear witness there are some gorgeous women out there that use eyelash filters and things to hide their blemishes. But people fail to realize that the most attractive beauty is that of one’s natural beauty. It’s truly heartbreaking with basic beauty standards aside from picture filters. Seeing women use fake eyelashes and pallets of make up on a daily basis this is only ruining the texture of their skin. The hairs of their lashes. I do wish the people can embrace themselves and appreciate themselves.

I have a faery princess aesthetic so I use a sparkle freckle or star freckle filter to keep the aesthetic going, it's doesn't do anything to my face structure beyond smoothing my pores 🤷‍♀️
Sometimes it's a self esteem thing because of how I grew up and shitty people/relationships but a majority of the time it's just my aesthetic

Yeah… I filtered in my beard, but those eyes are real… jk 🤣🤣🤣

I think those people only want the ego boost of the likes and the matches. (Which makes no sense because they aren't really swiping right on "you.") They have no intention of ever meeting anyone. Probably don't even want conversation.

Sometimes they are just fun to do. I agree there are some that take it a bit too far. It is just personal preference.

Honestly, filters are a major turn off, a red flag for me. If you can't put your honest self forward, how can I expect you to be honest when it counts?
