Midnight Message

Recommended Posts

It’s after midnight.

Your phone lights up.

No name.

Just a message.

“Are you awake?”

You stare at the screen longer than you should.

You don’t know who sent it.

But something in your chest tightens anyway.

You type back.

“Yeah.”

Three dots appear.

Disappear.

Then:

“I shouldn’t be texting you.”

You sit up.

Heart beating a little faster.

“Why?”

A pause.

Longer this time.

“Because if I come over… I don’t want to be touched.”
“I don’t want to be sweet-talked.”
“I want to be told what to do.”

Your jaw tightens.

Your thumb hovers.

You finally reply:

“Do you want me to be gentle…”
“Or do you want me to take control?”

Seconds pass.

Then:

“Control.”

Your pulse jumps.

You type slowly.

“If you walk through my door…”
“You follow instructions.”
“No arguing.”
“No pretending you’re stronger than you are.”

Another pause.

Then:

“Okay.”

You stand.

Not rushing.

Not panicking.

Just knowing something has started.

You send one last message.

“When you get here…”
“Knock once.”
“Then wait.”

Three dots appear.

Disappear.

Then:

“I’m on my way.”
