She didn't answer right away. Instead, a slow smile curved her lips in the dim room, the lingering tension in her shoulders completely melting into the plush pillows.
Depends, she murmured, her voice carrying a dry teasing edge as she leaned up on one elbow. "Did you come all the way up three flights of stairs just to comment on the scenery, or were you planning on making yourself useful?"
They chuckled a warm, low sound that seemed to vibrate in the quiet room. Without breaking eye contact, they kicked off their shoes, the soft thud on the rug signaling that the night was no longer hers alone.
"I came up here to make sure you weren't letting just anyone pick your lock," they replied smoothly, shifting closer until the cool air of the room was replaced by a comforting, familiar warmth. They reached out, a thumb lightly tracing the line of her jawline before sliding up to tuck a stray lock of hair behind her ear.
She let out a soft breath, tilting her head into the touch. The quiet hum of the boutique hotel on the third floor felt miles away from the rest of the world.
"Consider the lock tested," she whispered, pulling the edge of the duvet open in an unwritten invitation. "Now come here."
They didn't hesitate sliding beneath the heavy blankets. The mattress shifted as they pulled her close wrapping an arm around her waist and resting their chin lightly near her temple. Outside, the night remained perfectly still but inside the locked room, the silence was finally broken.
