Embracing masculinity and dominance

Recommended Posts

Masculinity comes from within , same with dominance. You need to find yourself and your own motivator. For me, it was about remembering my past, thinking back to how Men used to be, and embracing that.

As for balancing power it’s all about small steps and communication with your partner.

There is nothing toxic or bad about masculinity or femininity and that what alot attribute to toxic one or the other is actually just toxic people and behaviour in general. Just be yourself and learn what makes you comfortable with who you are be this a very masculine person or not.

This goes into dominance as well, it isn't about demanding obedience and taking power and control of someone else. Yes that may be what some are looking for but the vast majority of power stems from the Sub volunteering their submission to their Dom. Open and honest communication is the only way to find that balance that you are looking for and what you have with 1 partner may be very different from another and there is nothing wrong with this. Find what you are both comfortable with and try slowly pushing boundaries and trying new things be it rope play, temp play, impact play or any other things.

I personally dont like very heavy bdsm but do enjoy light bdsm and slowly learning more about how to give my Dub what they are looking for and needing from me

Was in the same boat. I found that daddy dom was the easiest one to get a handle on. You don’t really have to be “ultra masculine” (though, most of them you probably don’t, you just need to build some confidence).

Daddy can be very much a caretaking role. “Tucks”, making drinks…. Etc. But you wanna ask for the things you want (even if it’s largely for their benefit). The punishment part can come later (if that’s what’s pre-negotiated).

If your partner is a bit bratty, it might bring out that (punishment) part of you more naturally. Sometimes a disappointed look is all it takes.

Find the version that works best for you.

Safewords...you need the self control to honor it and you need a partner who knows how to use it.

If you are afraid to lose control you don’t go there
There’s no perks in bdsm greater than safety
First you solve your issues THAN you practice kink
You go there from happiness not from trauma

Its a good sign that you are asking these questions and not just assuming what you think is correct. Please don't base your perception on what a Dom is on anything Hollywood claims because it's almost always wrong and unhealthy. The advice you got here so far is sound, there are classes available here if you wish to learn more. That being said being a Dom requires trust, honesty and communication with anyone you practice with. If you are feeling unsure at times a true partner will support you, it should be a mutual give and take.

best thing if afraid of going too far - a very good ***

so basically, make sure you're on the same page as the other person before engaging in play or establishing dynamic.  Having good conversations around what you both would or wouldn't like is good

Remember also in any play, dynamic, activities - as part of aftercare you can talk and reflect on things. If the other person feels that you could have gone further you can take that in mind next time.   Though if in doubt always err on that, that you can't take it back if you go too far, you can always do more next time

Are you sure that’s your energy? Like are you struggling to reconnect with a part of yourself that you know is your core erotic blueprint?

Or are you reaching for that energy because you feel like you should?

As for going too far, a healthy *** of that shows a mindfulness which is healthy and a good sign. Clear communication with players you trust and good planning and safe words balance that out. And of course good aftercare protocols etc.

Being concerned about too g too far is a thought a healthy minister ought to experience, just don’t let it eat you and make sure it informs you on a broader level that you are in an ethical frame which is a good thing.

But as for that energy,
If you know that’s you and you’ve lost touch with it a bit, I would personally recommend going out into the world and doing some very challenging things. Climb a mountain, run a marathon, master a new skill, start a business, train martial arts, overcome challenges, engage with other challenging people to overcome obstacles.

That will translate to the frame you say you’ve lost touch with; and it will improve other areas of your life too.

But asking if it’s really your makeup or if you’re projecting that on yourself might be wise too, if you aren’t sure.

Blessings to you,
Have a great day.

It is incredibly common to worry about crossing lines when you have a history of trauma or ***. The fact that you are actively concerned about balancing power shows you have the self-awareness needed to be a safe, responsible dominant.

Healing Solo vs. Together:
While a safe, understanding partner can offer incredible relational healing down the road, it is highly recommended to start unpacking and working through your trauma on your own first. Building that solid, independent foundation makes it much easier to navigate the complexities of power dynamics later.

Redefine Dominance:
Real dominant energy isn't about cruelty or absolute control; it is about providing safety, structure, and a space where your partner feels completely secure. Think of it as leadership and protection rather than ***.

Start with "Soft" Dominance:
You don't have to jump into intense BDSM. Start with holding space, using a firmer tone of voice, leading decision-making, or incorporating praise.

Over-Communicate:
Set very clear boundaries, use a traffic-light safety system (Green/Yellow/Red), and check in frequently after scenes (aftercare).Go slow.

Building confidence takes time, especially when untangling it from past experiences.

First step to solving this is: communication, communication, communication. The reality of a relationship in kink is that the sub is really in control, not the dom - the sub asks you to stop, then you do.
Gradual keywords can help. Green for "go ahead, this is good", yellow for "just right, don't go any further" and red for "this is too much, please don't do it again". Prior talks will also open up what both your limits are.
Being thoughtful is a good thing. Being mindful of going too far is a good thing. Your partner's body language is going to tell you volumes about how things are going, too.
Just remember you're doing this together for each other, communicate and you'll do just fine. Mistakes happen, and you mustn't be afraid of them - the important thing going forward is to correct them.

Well trying to do everything at once is probably not gonna go smoothly

While there is some overlap between dominant, masculine and daddy energy you will likely have it easier if you address them one at a time, just focus on the one that comes most naturally to you and go from there

On the handling of power you don’t have to take on all of it, you shouldn’t take on any you can’t hold comfortably and as the one in charge of setting the pace you can just take your time without having to ask for things to slow down so if you need a minute to think take one
Also don’t forget that you aren’t doing it alone, asking your partner what too far is and how far they want you to go doesn’t subtract form your dominance, if anything it can add to it

There isn't any difference in Dominant and Daddy energy when you strip it down to basics. Both are just leaders. They both pay attention to their submissive counterparts. They set examples and boundaries. They discipline those boundaries/rules being broken. They reward good behavior. Set up structure and be consistent with reward and punishment. Have a talk about limits and safe words. Remember every relationship is bumpy in the beginning as you figure each other out. Build trust and make it your own. Don't try to fit into boxes and labels. There is a great website called kuldrinskrypt.com that has podcasts about everything kink. I know Kuldein and he has a lot of experience and he is trusted in this region. I point any new ie to his site.
