The Psychology of Being Owned & Loved

Recommended Posts

Why can being "owned" sometimes feel more intimate than being desired?

In BDSM, ownership is rarely about possession in the literal sense. For some people, it becomes a psychological language for attachment, trust and belonging.

There is something different about being wanted and being claimed.

Desire says: I want you.

Ownership can say: I know you, I choose you, and I want this connection to be ours.

That distinction becomes especially interesting when love enters the dynamic.
A submissive may give someone authority without giving away their identity. That surrender is voluntary, negotiated and built on trust. And precisely because freedom remains present, the feeling of belonging can become emotionally powerful.

Perhaps this is why "you are mine" can mean something completely different in a healthy BDSM relationship.

Not "you exist for me."

But "there is a part of you that you have chosen to entrust to me."

Maybe the deepest form of ownership in BDSM is not possession at all.

Maybe it is the feeling of being deeply known, deliberately chosen, and emotionally safe enough to belong to someone without losing yourself.

So where does the line between possession and belonging really begin?

And when someone says "you are mine"..

Do you hear control, intimacy, or both?

I personally think its sexy when my Dom says I'm his

When i call someone mine i desire them physically spiritually and mentally platonic or sexual i value their time their presence. Time is ones most valuable resource and for someone to spend it together with me means the world to me theres a million and one things they could be doing but they chose to be with you that is in its purest form love

When I hear "you are mine"
It depends on how soon after knowing someone when I hear it.
-Too soon feels more like control and someone trying to rush thing
-After a bit of knowing each other and understanding each other, it feels more like both.
-After a few months of getting to know each other, it feels more like intimacy, and for me, belonging able acceptance. Also, control, depending on how it is said šŸ˜‰
This one tends to be where it hurts more when things don't work out though.
