In the vibrant heart of New Orleans’ Bywater neighborhood, The Happy Kitten Portal has established itself as one of the city’s most creative and inclusive spaces for kink, art, and erotic exploration. Known simply as The Portal, it’s a private community dungeon and art studio that blends fetish culture with performance, education, and self-expression — embodying the free-spirited energy that defines New Orleans itself.
The Happy Kitten Portal was founded by Mistress Genevieve, a renowned professional Dominatrix, BDSM educator, and performer who has been an influential figure in the New Orleans kink scene for more than two decades. Her vision was to create a venue where sexuality, creativity, and empowerment intersect — a place for classes, play parties, art installations, and private sessions within a safe and consensual framework.
The Portal offers a variety of events, workshops, and immersive experiences, including themed play parties, erotic art shows, and BDSM education nights. The space welcomes kinksters, artists, and curious newcomers alike. Consent and respect are at the core of every event.
Inside, the space is both functional and theatrical — filled with professional BDSM equipment and custom-built furniture including bondage rigs, crosses, spanking benches, and performance stages. The décor reflects the eclectic, gothic charm of New Orleans: velvet d***s, glowing lights, and sensual art installations that transform the dungeon into a living gallery.
Membership or RSVP is required for most events. Attendees must review house rules and adhere to community standards of safety, etiquette, and mutual respect. Photography and recording are strictly prohibited without consent, and sexual activity is allowed only within negotiated and respectful boundaries.
Beyond being a play space, The Happy Kitten Portal serves as a hub for education and community connection. Mistress Genevieve and other local educators host classes on rope bondage, power dynamics, fetish etiquette, and the psychology of dominance and submission. These workshops help build a culture of understanding and growth within the New Orleans kink community.
