Would my professional skill set make me more attractive to a sub?

Recommended Posts

I am new to the community here and the kink community at large. And I have a serious question. I do leather work...making various items such as belts, masks, wrist bands/bracelets. And I'm not here offering to sell my wares so don't ask.
But would a skill set like this be attractive to any portion of the sub community?
Ya know, in the event it come up in conversation.

If you're talking about a passion of yours - always.

I think it would yes. I know for me it would be amazing to have my dom custom make stuff for me!

Blacksmith (machinist/fabricator) here.... I have long avoided the urge to do armor, props, etc.

I think there's many in the community who would be interested in bespoke leather items

I don't know about any particular skill set.. but like I read here already. Anything you're truly passionate about
I find any sort of manual job where you're creating something very attractive 😍 as a sub it makes me melt for some reason. And it being with leather is just sexy tbh.
Happy to share my wisdom on leather craft.

In my experience no I’m a mechanic/restoration specialists and weld/fabricator. Women don’t care generally speaking not In DFW

As a female part of the sub community, I would say it would be a bonus but not an automatic panty dropper. 😊 What partner wouldn't want a handmade collar or cuff from her partner? Just my opinion for what it's worth.

I bet you make more networking friends with the dominants though.

I mean, it's an icebreaker

especially if you have work/wares to show

However, of course - if you are selling then be aware of course of looking like you're advertising -- if you're not selling, then be prepared to get lots of requests for free :) haha

Well, I already go to vendor event with the stuff I create and I can pull 500+ at certain events. But as far as custom stuff my policy has always been pay me what you think it's worth...granted I have an idea in my head of the value, but Noone has ever tried to short me or get it for free.. especially since they know I hand tool and hand stitch it myself...

It's more about who you are and not as much what you do. Unless you want to use subs in your work

So, yeah. Fair - it's a talking point

But consider ultimately folk would still see you as a trader from that perspective and while it can introduce to more people - it's no garauntee for anything more

Hell yes it would. I have my own style of fashion, incorporating leather and metal into the ensemble. I never look like anyone else, and I love it. If I had someone to take my design ideas too, it could get really interesting, really quick.

So short answer; yes, your skill set finds you in envious company my good sir. 💯

That's where you're tripping up. They're not going to care about the details of the actual craft or trade. It is about the idea of being a "man's man", e.g. rough, working with your hands, bending the material to your will, getting hot and sweaty putting tough physical work in. That already sounds a lot like a fucking right? But yeah, no woman gives a shit about how good you lay down a stack of dimes. 😂

From my experience, yes. Writing Latin poems, drawing for her, repairing stuff of emotional value, making a necklace or something like that for her... every woman - vanilla and kinky - I was ever with loved it. Some because they really care, some because they can brag with it in front of their friends.

My girlfriend made the banner of my dwarfen pen&paper character, so I can put it on my wall... I am a male Sub but for me this is in fact a panty drop, not just because it shows impressive skills, but because it is thoughtfull as hell and the effort shows, that she cares so much about me.

A couple of you mentioned the boredom of conversation about leather work and said it wouldn't play a role. Let me clarify...As a welder (which I guess you all figured out my trade from the name) I know talking shop can be dull to those not into it. As such I wasnt saying that it would be a point of discussion. There's a lot to leather work. I just meant as knowledge to the sub.

When going down the road of looking for a partner, topics like jobs are likely to come up if it is to be any sort of long-term relationship. That's kinda where my thoughts were with this.
I know I can go off on a tangent about my hobbies and interests, but I wouldn't want to drone on about it to someone who wasn't interested in the info.
