How/where did you learn life skills?

Recommended Posts

A leaky bathtub faucet is so inconvenient when you don’t have a man around. At least not any you want inside your house. 🙈

Now I’m supposed to figure out how to take the thing off to access some sort of seal, then make sure it looks fine, being careful not to break anything else? All while knowing the right tools and of course then having them. I didn’t sign up for this. I’m just a girl. 😂😭 I just want to wash my face and do my skincare routine without listening to drip. drip. drip. all damn night. I ignored it for too long and it got worse. Who would have known that would happen? No one could have possibly known 😅

Also, yes I get it. I could watch YouTube videos, but I really don’t have the time, energy, or effort to dedicate to that.

Where did you learn your life skills? At what point in life was I supposed to pick these up? 😬 was there an adulting class I missed?

Some of us just naturally have the aptitude to fix things. Then add youtube for the parts u dont know.

PREACH FOR THE SHORT PEOPLE LIKE ME IN THE BACK!!!! This baddie thought she fixed her leaky furnace after 2 days of struggle and I’m STILL gunna have to call a man to come fix it because no matter HOW MANY YouTube videos I watch I do not have to confidence of a man to do those things🤣😭☠️

I just want a handsome guy to come clean out my pipes(or whatever) and leave me warm and satisfied. Is that too much to ask?😭

If you’re too mentally inept to fix a leaking faucet it’s not because you’re “just a girl” it’s because you’re a dumbass

How come i never get those kind of calls 🤣

YouTube can be great if your a see one do one kinda person. Or if you know someone who knows how to, have them teach you as they do it. That way you know how to do it if it happens again.

You said it yourself, YouTube. And if you do t want a man inside your place, you better start doing things yourself😉. It will be good for you

It appears you are picking up those skills now…

I’d offer to come fix it for you, but the 400+ mile drive is prohibitive.

I don't know how to fix a leaky tap, but then the reason for that is.... I've never need to.   44 years and never had a leaky tap.

Now if I *did* have one - the first thing I would do is youtube, if you don't have time for that, you're not going to learn by magic.   If I tried youtube and found it was beyond me (didn't have the right tools, set up, too much boxed in, etc. I also have dyspraxia so if it's too fiddly I probably can't do it) then yep, handyman.... and if you don't want a man in your house (as a few who have commented don't seem to get...) then a handywoman.

Yes! Good idea! I’ll look for that so I can do it myself next time 💪🏻

No leaky faucets in 44 years is very impressive. And what if I want to believe in magic? 🤪

A handywoman is an excellent idea! Thank you

Find a guy who funds you beautiful, and wants to help you achieve all the best this life has to offer.i get flutters thinking of all the smiles I've gotten for freely giving myself to impro e any aspect of a beautiful girls life.

Just get a plumber or you will probably flood your house

No, that is for handy or capable!

I am pretty sure I could do it considering im a plumber..

YouTube is a couple of mere minutes. You don't want to.. you have time, or you wouldn't have posted this. We all have to do things we don't want to sometimes. But ...and I hate to say this because of the larger issues and discussion, supplement YouTube with an AI...if you see something that fits f make sense on YouTube or want a tip on how to start something the video made ook easy but you cant seem to get right? Just ask the AI chat of choice. It's what I've found AI the most helpful at...providing add'l details of life smaller tasks and topics

When I learned most of my ‘life skills’, we didn’t have the internet.
My Father taught me how to repair cars, rewire a plug socket, a light, even add a socket to a ring main. I learned plumbing, electrics, woodwork, mechanics.
He was an engineer. So if we couldn’t buy it, we made it.

My Mum was an excellent cook. She taught me how to do that. I was stirring sauces, stood on a chair in front of a stove, and ***ling and cutting veggies from the age of five.

Nowadays, less people seem to have that ‘luxury’ of having two parents around with manual skills sadly.
BUT.
We do have the internet, and in particular, YouTube… which I still find useful for many practical instruction videos.

I have passed my skills on to my two sons, hopefully they will do the same to their son and daughter respectively.

If you don’t have the time - or can’t create th time to learn the skills at night classes, or even find the time to watch YouTube, then your choice is really simple.

Pay a tradesman to do it for you.

I know that might not seem like much help, but your choices are limited, unless you have friends who are handy, and happy to help in this rather mercenary world.

I hope you solve your leak. Good luck. 👍🏼

I don’t care if it’s just a saying, it’s fucking ridiculous 😭 you’re not a dumbass because you’re a girl you’re a dumbass because you’re a dumbass

I just dediced to learn. I could afford to take my cars to the mechanic. My plumbing to a plumber. Other things as well. I just decided to look up the scale of difficulty and what could be the risk if if make it worse or dont fix it in the 1st try. Eventually you gain skills.

Now, I can and have replace an engine in my race car by myself. Do alignments, I replaced a cv axle for an x and when she got an alignment later that day, the tech said it was dead aligned.

You just motivate yourself and decide to do something about it.
