Can we get rid of browser-opening ads?

Look, I get the need for ad support, but can we please not allow ads that pop open in my browser? They are the worst and those kind of ads have been bad practice for over 20 years. I would quit the app/site entirely before paying for premium to not deal with pop-ups and browser redirects, and it's starting to get old.

And the 30 second video ads. I've found the hack is to close the app and restart, hope that helps 😉

There's ads? Huh... Never noticed... It's almost like maybe there's ways to not see them? 🤔
I think the thing that's most irritating about it, to me anyway, is that everyone knows ads don't help people buy the product being advertised anymore. They're strictly there to annoy you, into paying for the "upgrade". The upgrade, of course, being to have the ability to actually use the app, without being bombarded by constant, obnoxious interruptions. It doesn't make sense, to advertise to people who didn't have the *** to upgrade, in the first place. They're either broke, or cheap. Either way, they're not buying anything from you. 🤷

So it’s unfair to expect a service provider for profit to make ***? One way or the other? Try this. Develop your own app. Host it. Advertise it. Gain users ect. Then complain about how others are inconvenienced about add’s because they chose not to subscribe. All in while expecting a self entitled free hand out. 🤔.

The astrict’s are about m-o-n-e-y. Yes they are that strict which is good. However lacking in profiles.

I'm not complaining about ads or wanting a free hand out or end to ads, just an end to specifically the redirecting, browser opening ads from the app. Plenty of others make *** from ad support without such tactics.

alas; another reason why I refuse to use the app :/

the issue folk are having is it's not the website - it's the app

Mind, some of the app stores really don't like apps opening browsers - so that might get nipped in the bud.

Reading comprehension is in the toilet online these days, that and people always online want to "gotcha" or be petty assholes. Whole internet got extra and exponentially toxic starting 5 years ago.
.
That alone might make me just quit the site entirely, there's not any real space for people like me anyway, anyone else like me have been quitting left and right because we're not allowed to express ourselves because it makes the credit processors clutch their pearls, and my type was already a rare breed anyway.
.
Honestly, I don't even know why I still have an account at all, like anything is going to change in that regard (I live in a rural area, moving is not an option, there's never going to be someone to fit me and what I am into).

I try to behave, but genuinely - even though I won't use the app - my biggest complaint about the site is the app

because it's lead to a lot of the censorship, santising, etc OK, you couldn't have a NSFW profile pic before the app and there were some topics were always no nos, but with the app it meant more couldn't be discussed - words censored

Hell - there was a forum dedicated to water/hard sports and the entire board had to be deleted

And, like, I dunno. I will defend the site when I think people are being unfair (probably more than I sometimes should) but yeah, the app is boggling

I’ve almost much stopped using the forums on here now due to the censorship, some posts are pretty much unreadable.

A lot of that is, as eyemblacksheep mentioned, due to there being an app. In order to be on the app store, there's a lot they can't do. Sure, they could do like FL and try just releasing the app themselves and not be on the app stores, which you can do with Androids but that's tougher with iPhones, so that's potentially half your "market" gone, never mind the necessarily slower uptick, etc making the cost of building and maintaining the app worthless because of the lower income that route.
.
And unfortunately, because of this kowtowing to ads and app stores and credit processors, the sites become more vanilla and more inundated with vanillas, which is a large part of what keeps them afloat.
.
The other option is to put everything behind a paywall and that keeps only the dedicated, mostly legit BDSM people, but then you have very, VERY low user numbers (compare user numbers here or on FL to a site like The Cage, where everything other than creating a profile is behind a paywall). And then with low user counts, nobody wants to pay because they're paying for essentially nothing because there's nobody within a reasonable distance with which to message.
.
Late-stage crapitalism extra ruined by neo-liberal economics... isn't it great? *eye roll*

I've certainly cut down. And there's been days where I have got to... like... it feels a day I logged off and don't log back in is getting closer. The forums are what I enjoy most on the site and they're becoming barely usable.

I keep getting a fake "your system is infected with 3 viruses" which randomly opens in my browser when I'm using the app. It's not one of the usual adverts for games or whatever thar pops up, but some kind of scam. It's a Cloudfront URL containing a load of random numbers and letters. Anyone else getting this? It's really annoying!

Also, off topic, but is there a reason i can only use the FET app when on WiFi? Is it my mobile phone company being overprotective and blocking it or something?

Mobile phone company

you need to contact them and get them to enable adult content

Has this suddenly become a thing again? I'm using the desktop version, but occasionally, when I click to view my messages page, another site or advert loads itself in another tab, the most recently being AliExpress, but I didn't click onto the tab to see whether it was just an advert or their actual site, as I close the tab as soon as it loads itself. My browser has an adblocker on, and should be set to block popups and redirects...

This sounds similar to what's been mentioned upthread, so I was wondering whether it's just me, or is anyone else now getting this?

(edited)

I thought I had malware on my computer/browser and cleared all the cookies, browser data and reinstalled my browser too. Just to find the site still redirecting/opening up aliexpress.com and some dating site.

I mean, HOW BAD is the user experience when a user ends up thinking they've suddenly got malware on their computer just bcs the way ad's are displayed.

Trust your UX designers, don't push crap like this to users. The only other place I've seen this in use in the past 10 years is on torrent sites. This site is now on that level when it comes to advertising.  And that is low.

(I would have not believed the ads to be real unless there would have been others reporting the same thing. And I still cant believe its true and want to think it must be malware)
