More this. How you cup or flatten your hand makes a big difference. Depending whether they respond to sound or impact. Same for sting or thud. Also whether firm impact or skimming. Using ice adds another dynamic. Also how they are held down… across lap or over one knee with the other leg across their back. The psychological aspect is also important.
