Chronicles of Gor

Recommended Posts

When i was in my 20s I stumbled across a book called tarnsman of gor. It is written by John Norman. He has a philosophy about women in this series of books. I am genuinely curious if anyone else has read these books, and what your outlook on his premise about women. I would appreciate an actual thought out answer with you opinion on this and why you are for/against, or ambivalent towards them. I will watch for notifications and try to respond to all of the qualifying posts.
Again a full answer would be appreciated since I wish to start discussions over these books. Genuine female input would be excellent as well. Thank you for reading all of this.
The books are a staple of the Master / slave folk. There is even a class of the Master / slave kink based on the novels you may come across people who are Gorean as a fetish and follow a Gorean lifestyle
There is a well-established subculture around “Gorean Slavery” - some self-describe it as slavery without kink. The women in this subculture will post pictures of themselves in specific poses, such as “nadu” sometimes clad in scarves of specific colors to indicate the service they are skilled in.

Norman’s world view is that all women secretly (or not) want to be subjugated to men. I find that view reductionist. But (and forgive what might seem like mansplaining) from a 3rd wave feminist perspective if some women agree with Norman’s perspective, live it, and find it self actualizing, then let’s celebrate that self-actualization!

For you, as a man, I do not recommend that you adopt John Norman’s worldview. It tries to make a statement about “all women” and I think that’s a path to ruin and madness. If you choose to live a male Gorean life as a kink (Goreans would never call it a kink), we can celebrate your self-actualization too, and hope with sincerity that you find compatible others.
There are a lot of women who are into this. I'm not one of them, but I've come across a bunch on FetLife who are. And they really go deep into this lifestyle (or I guess as deep as one can go in modern day).
Some people have acquainted the philosophy that he presents in that series as Stockholm syndrome because the women from Earth and Gorham are essentially held at bay against their will until the compromise and accept what they're told to do.
And some other people have equated the philosophy the he presents in the books as a standoff against women's liberties in the 1950s and '60s and He is presenting the way he thinks that it should be the way it used to be.
And some other people see it as women's true feelings that a man is And they should be doing what they're told to do and be subservient.
And some people think that the philosophy is similar to BSDM and it's just a power struggle.
Never read the books and have no idea what their premise is. As someone with a longstanding interest in interpersonal dynamics I am interested in following the thread. I hope there is a lot of discussion
And some people simply Have a rule... If you're going to drag your lady you drag her by your hair... You don't drag her by your foot because then she fills up with sand hahaha 🤣
And I think on the other side some women agree with the philosophy because they like to be subservient and they like to be told what to do and they like to be manhandled and they like to be used at will.
It's all subjective to the reader, although it is hot as shit reading that series.
Really gets your *** flowing.
But like I said very subjective to the reader if the wrong readers reading it they take it the wrong way.
And vice versa there's different series that have the same basic flow and timeline and philosophy that are written by women and BDSM backgrounded that are very subjective to men as well where it's the total opposite where the Amazonian women are the ones dragging the guy around by his dick.
And some men might find that offensive as well.
It's all subjective to the reader.
Much like there's different comic books series that are x-rated that have women dragon guys around and shoving big black things up there backside it's all what your kink is lol
I've read the Gor books too. Are they good literature? Well, they are entertaining in their own way. I think the author must have been a frustrated CIS man who created a completely exaggerated world of patriarchy. Women are reduced to the bare essentials and men are superior. A feverish fantasy.

It is impressive, however, that the Gorean positions of the kajiras have found their way into our BDSM world. Therefore, the books have earned their place in the annals of BDSM.
I love a good book, especially one that can be thought provoking; if I agree with it or not. But, what does this have to do with kink? A layer of context would be appreciated.
I doubt many people have read the books. Maybe you could state his position on women and then people will reply to that?
if you do not find what you are looking for here, there is a Gor RP community in Second Life. its an interesting experience, ive only done rp, never read them, so i cant speak to that
I've never read the books personally, but the Gor series is fairly well known in BDSM circles. There are groups of people that refer to themselves as Goreans, generally those in 24/7 Master/ slave dynamics, that use many of the symbols and follow the rituals described in the books.
I read and own almost all the books. I started with the online community on AOL and yahoo groups way back when.

I had a Tavern online with multiple kajira serving in the tavern.

I also did Gorean real life for about 10 years.

It is a Master/slave dynamic but much more intense basically. The rules are much more strict versus a BDSM M/s dynamic. However, many things in the Gorean lifestyle do not translate to real life because well laws and such.

I hope this helps answer your question. Feel free to ask anything else you wish to know.
