I’m new to this community and I’ve got a lot I want to do and learn. I was wondering if anyone has any BDSM technical book recommendations that might prove as a good way for me to learn about the community and as a good jumping off point for myself. I want to be a rigger eventually and again I’m trying to find books or classes that are trusted by the community that might help me learn how to safely learn shibari. In my intentions section of my profile I also listed networking and finding evens and such as one of my intentions. One large thing I’m trying to find out is where and how to engage in kink culture so I’d love to know what everyone has to say about it! Thank you!

You can use sites like Fetlife to find local munches, sloshes and educational classes near you.

As far as books personally I enjoyed "The New Topping Book", "The New Bottoming Book", "The Art of Dominance" (love me some Anthony Fulmen).

For books about Shibari specifically I love Two Knotty Boys books they have great picture examples, "The Little Guide to Getting Tied Up" and "Better Bondage for Every Body" both by Evie Vane. "Essence of Shibari: Kinbaku and Japanese Rope Bondage" by Shin Nawakari,

Thanks for the coffee table book recommendations. Much appreciated madam.

I always just ask questions or Google things. Context helps me remember

Yeah I’m still relatively new to the whole BDSM thing to

Fetlife is a good way to find events and mentors to help learn

Find a MENTOR on FetLife.com

Make sure they are community vetted

Good luck honey. The courses offered by FET are really good

I will add a caveat when looking for a mentor. You should not be engaging in play or a sexual relationship with your mentor.

Use Fetlife and search for events in your local area, I’ve attended a rope Shibari worksheet, board games and social events in my local area, they are usually very welcoming and a safe way to learn. Stay safe.

Fetlife.com is awesome, and has groups, event listings and a very welcoming, friendly atmosphere, as well as a large glossary. Lots of knowledgable, amazing people there to befriend and learn from, too. 🙂

I don’t have any books but I myself am an open book! Feel free to ask any questions! I don’t kink shame or judge! Just like when I’m training new employees at work I always say the only stupid question is this question you didn’t ask because then that’s the only question you don’t know the answer to!
