Kink in a Foreign Language

Does anyone have any experience or guidance to share regarding pursuing your kink side in a foreign locale? I'm not talking vacation! I recently moved to the French/German border and it presents unique issues:

1. I'm learning the main language (French), but - at least via the site - pickings are slim.

2. There's ample opportunity in the neighboring country, but I don't speak the language. This also seems to be the only outlet for munches, too, so double the issue?

Anybody ever experience anything like this?

Most Europeans are taught English growing up as well as their given language. Try expressing that while you’d like to participate you need assistance with the language barrier

Lived in different countries, and Germany... this is only my recommendation, and "if" you plan to live in your area for a long time. Yes, alot can speak English, but you have to learn the basics of the language to communicate. Translaters are great, but sometimes comes out funky/weird. You have to correct the grammer.

Thanks for your response. I've lived in Europe for a number of years now. Your point has some truth. However, Kink offers different challenges.

As supportive as our community is overall, meeting people - especially potential partners - is also a competitive landscape (think of your own inbox). If the queue of potential partners is long and you have additional communication challenges with one of them, it's often easier just to pass that one by.

But your response has me rethinking my question. Maybe I should be asking instead if there are English language munches in this region.

Thanks Kiseu. Completely correct which is the source of the problem. I'm learning French to cope with la vie quotidienne. But - at least here on this site,

I think you'd be surprised how barren the French kink landscape is. Germany's scène, which starts within walking distance of my house, is robust. But it's too much right now to try and immerse myself in a second new language.

I'm pretty sure that I already knew this question didn't really lend itself to an easy answer, but I know it made me feel better to spit it out of my head and put it into the world. Thanks for being supportive.

I've been quite fortunate enough to have played with people amongst a whole bunch of different nationalities and this has come with challenges, at times.

Often the other person has done most of the language carrying - as, well, my German is passable tourist German - and I can speak two words in Romanian (although, two very important words - Da Stapana)

I did however once have a rather bad experience which I put down to a mixture of language barrier and the lady not being as experienced as implied - coupled with the person doing the translating not *actually* being strong in the language either.   So, yep, it is definitely important to be able to communicate openly.   Unless I deeply trust the translator I now won't indulge with someone I can't openly communicate with.

I think there are a few English-speaking munches on the continent, especially in areas where there might be mixed languages.  I know Berlin has two for example, so there's a good chance other large cities have English speaking munches, I guess they would give a good space to learn words and phrases to help communicate.

I think your settings have me blocked from messaging, so I'll send a friend request. Thanks for the support!

Thanks Eyem! Given the size and international nature of my city, I'm sort of surprised there isn't any English language munch here. Though that may also be influenced by people working in the public sector wanting to maintain privacy.

I'll keep my eyes ***led, for sure.

And I've just learned that I can only send a friend request AFTER receiving a message from you.

Some advice as you're learning French, often kink is a language of the vernacular far more than what is taught in language programs. I'm guessing that you moved into the Alsace Lorraine area, and depending on where you are a lot of the local kink vernacular will be... unique. A mixture of French and German dialects. I would advise going to see local porn to learn the lingo. Hangout in the seedier bars, strip Clubs and brothels. Think of it as learning how the people in your area really speak so that you will have an easier time blending into the scene. Terminology in kink in any language is almost a completely different dialect then the language at large. In a border region it becomes a patois of dialects. Your area will probably be a mix of Parisian French, Alsacien French, High German and Allamanisch German, with some English words thrown in for spice. I hope this helps.
