People get obsessed with the idea accounts should be flushed because they don't feel they're active.  And it's... another form of entitlement when there are two options.  One is pay for premium and thus be able to access the filters. Or... partake on your local kink community. Everyone else there is real and active, else they wouldn't be there.

If you feel an app isn't giving you what you'd like, it's folly to continue to use it.

I would say just be yourself and if it doesn't happen swipe left swipe right.
There's really no 100% set rules for putting the bait out and what you're going to catch.
It's a lot like going downtown or using your fingers, you just got a listen for those little cues on what's making them feel good.
And if it's working keep doing whatever's working. . whatever gets you those little cues just keep going with that.
