A good Dominant knows when to push, when to wait, and when to change the fucking rules

Whether the dominant should adapt or not depends on whether he is willing to take on that challenge. Has there been a discussion on the authority he would like and evaluated compatibility with a potential sub? Has he earned the authority he is asking for? There are many variables involved so it’s hard to say where the line is drawn because it’s different for everyone.

Any true D/s dynamic or relationship demands understanding and respect - which also involves being able to compromise in ways that still adheres to the truest essence of each person. With careful and open communication, both should be achievable and if not - clarity should make a peaceful and mutual parting possible.

I have personally struggled with this my committed partner. We are both switches. She is more used to being submissive to men, and dominant to woman. I am more used to dominating women, and mostly bc of her support, I have just begun to explore: my feminine submissive side, getting pegged by her, and having sexy fun with just me an another guy. But my normal dominant personna does not fit her submissive side. We have tried, and it always ends up with her shutting down, or taking control to save the scene. She is extremely head strong, and has lot of walls due to trauma. She did explain to me that she needs to trust me completely in my dom frame before she can ever fully submit. She has trusted me with much more of herself than others she's submitted to, yet she says that she doesn't know if she can ever fit that role with me. And that is not for my lack of trying different approaches. Thoughts?

Very well stated. 🩷 I've only connected with ONE DOM and who has a remarkable sense of empathy and is very intuitive. You are correct, no two submissives are the same.

Domination and Submission is a Tango. A very sensual dance between two person that is enhance by: an ambiance created by lighting music and most important verbal and non verbal communication. Each action from one creates a reaction on the other and it requires both to be fully in the moment and not in their head.

I always have to chuckle when I read „abandoning your script“: I really hope that’s not what people are doing . No 2 persons are alike and a connection however short or long in my opinion should be co-created dynamically. Not just played like a broken record repeating the same loop while not reading the room or people in it .

I completely agree

one thing of course also is that... so absolutely, subs differ and the right approach with one is the wrong with another.  There is a liklihood that if one relationship ends and you embark on another (or, have an additional relationship if you're not monogamous) it's different people with different wants, needs and structures and that's the same as out of kink as it is in kink.

Now, there's things within a good Dominant in being able to recognise differences. But one also good trait is a good Dominant should recognise not every sub is right for them.  This doesn't mean they're bad subs, or bad people

But, like, as a Dominant you still have likes, dislikes, preferences, so on. And, like if you end up with a partner/sub and require to weaken or sacrifice these to make it work - whilst, compromise isn't a dirty word - there's every chance so far down the line you're resentful and not happy

Only kinda you know where the lines are where it needs to be "I like you, but this isn't going to work"

I don't lose myself and can't as the i am the same person, I am one scarred up and beaten down whole crazy person. See the submissive should be adapting to the dom but at the same time the dom should be taking there time even if it's someone you have known for 23 years, I am finding my peace with her which is what I lost a few years back. Sometimes the discovery of each other while the dom leads and I have brat, *** my ass but I can't have a timid women as they become conscious as I don't think like everyone else. The sub I am with now and almost lost knows me very well but no one will ever see what is the void the darkness that only I can see through. When I bond with someone that's it for me I will keep them safe and secure knowing I will tare down the world to stop them for being hurt and I unfortunately have been the cause of the hurt.
Ok I have brat, she likes to push sometimes and I love it personally but some say that is a lack of control but the fact is your displaying more control than most require because letting her free to brat it out then with a grab of the throat and wrapping my hands on her hair taking control of her mind instantly. Brats require some freedom or you will suffocate them as they aren't slaves. So my aproach has always been to pull them in at the start cuddling tight. If she is feeling bratty then let her go for a minute then snatch her up however you take instant contol back when she needs to focus. I don't have a preferred style so I adapt to the individual not the sub type, as I find the more I know about a person the more I can contol the parts of her that she might not understand yet. You have to get when I go sometimes I go complete primal and feral then take anything I want knowing my rules.
So bro, look at the person, I used too be racist and looked at everything in the group sense but when I learned to look at every person as an individual my opinion turned into I hate everyone equally unless your in my very very small circle.

The one thing I will say about the dominant side of the fence and that is that if you don't have control that word works for allot but the firm of control they must have. For the more advanced forms of play that have *** or loss of life, the dominant must have full, total and complete contol over himself, contol of anyone but you is an illusion many ***t up. A dominant self control can make certain decisions within the dynamic. That is why I stepped away the last time was I was losing control of my own mind and I became very unpredictable for others and myself.
A dominants job is not only manage the sub but maintain balance inside them to not get overly excited and sometimes give impact to hard for the person. I don't have to worry about this. I am happy personally with this and now I have scary control over myself, I don't want contol from my sub, I want obedience and respect.

The only person and action you can reliable contol is yourself and your actions. Dom or Sub, the sub should want to let go with no need to control anything but yourself.

I don’t get one thing. Are you granted your dominant? Why are you demanding him to adopt to you? What dynamic is that why should I even bother doing what I don’t want to? Or not my way? Like a tiger but in circus 🤡 how ridiculous is that
The first thing dominant does he chooses (!) the sub. Choose! Then there’s a pair dominant who does his thing to fulfill his needs and sub who feels genuinely satisfied just from what his dom does. Not vice versa

Yep. All of that.

I think there's an issue sometimes that, particularly men, are more likely to take what they can get, regardless of if it's right for both parties.    Like, sometimes I see guys talk about how many subs (or Dommes) they've had - and like especially if they are young-ish, then none of these lasted. They either weren't as chameleon like as they thought, or, themselves unhappy.

(Unless of course, they're talking about casual play, which is valid but different)

I want to see the glory. Bear with me.
For me, the glory of being a good Dom is not about controlling or coercing behaviour that I want to experience. Absolutely not. The most important thing that means more to me than anything else in this lifestyle, is "willing". Asides from the obvious r*** aspect, I have to be willing to ensure they are safe, loved and secure enough to "open" in any way they feel desire for. For me, they have to be willing to "perform" in a way that satisfies my wants. Neither can occur without trust and willing cannot exist without trust in each other. Willing surrender is an emotional depth that brings so much more reward than just "sticking it in".
For me it's best labelled as loving sadism. I want to do that to you, you're willing, so we both enjoy it and as that experience will strengthen the bond and trust between us, the love increases and the experience can expand into something even more exotic/satisfying/experimental or whatever it leads to but the foundation has to be there. As the Daddy side of me, seeing the emotional satisfaction of "getting it right" for my little doesn't just elicit enjoyment, it also elicits pride. Pride for getting it right to make her feel special, as well as pride in having an experience that gives me immense satisfaction.

Overall, it should be a dance of trust and love, whatever the kink is. Mine is ddlg, others might be s&m, some might be vanilla with fantasies. Whatever it is, love and trust rule and willing creates the mutual subspace.

My 2 cents.

Apparently the web doesn't like the 'and' symbol, that last bit should have been "s and m"
