So I came across a video on TikTok about shibari which I'm still very new to (I've only watched a few videos) What if it was done not with ropes but long scarves or even hair around certain body parts (if it was long enough) I'm genuinely curious because thinking about it is both a turn on but also incredibly relaxing.

to a degree - this is already a thing and is something where it becomes more about either the sensation of the item (sensation play) or the fetish of the material (for example, someone with a fetish for silk may be aroused if tied with silk)

similarly - a lot of home bondage might be done with improvised materials.

But, for a lot of ties and shibari etc - rope is used for safety.   Everything from it's ability to hold weight - to how it locks with itself - to, how easy it is to cut if something goes wrong.

Bondage can be done with lots of materials, shibari in itself is rope bondage but can, to a degree, be done with other materials too. I have used cables and pallet wrap before, it always depends on what one wants to achieve really.
