Maple frat paddle

I just ordered two maple frat paddles from that river company. One for my Domme and one for myself. I've never used or felt maple in a spanking context. The darn things measure 22" long × 3-1/2" wide × 3/4" thick(559mm x 89mm x 19mm)!!

My question is how does the would compare to oak, cedar, and pine in regards to thud and sting? I would guess that it's less thuddy than oak and less stingy than pine or cedar. Currently,  my clear favorite for a balance of both is cedar. But I'd love to hear from those that have used or had it used on you.
