If you’re looking for some fetish fun but time is limited and you’re getting bored of the club scene, why not let the internet be your guide? In our series of fetish dating website reviews, Fetish.com checks out Bondage Pal. But is this kinky website any good?

Bondage Pal is one that starts off really well; the homepage has a striking central image and seems classy enough. There’s also plenty of text explaining how they operate and how they care for their members, another promising sign.

To a certain extent, the emphasis seems to be on newcomers, with plenty of reassurances that this is both a ‘clean environment’ and a ‘safe environment’.

Bondage Pal offers to make you famous on the site if you're female and send in your best pictures

Interestingly, they also flag up the issue of fake member profiles. These can be easily filtered out from real members because the emails soon dry up when the site has your money, but many people have been caught in this way, so it’s a live problem and good of them to mention it.

To underline their authenticity, they point out six active member profiles which are apparently listed on the entry page. However, these profiles are just empty image boxes, so some basic site maintenance would make all the difference here.

Half-finished design

It’s a struggle to find any sense of community or ways to share BDSM lifestyle interests on Bondage Pal. This is a basic dating site with a UK bias, and anything other than chat messaging doesn’t exist. Worse still, the entire site has a half-finished feel to it that borders on neglect.

One page asks for photos of female members and promises to make them famous, but it’s bare. The Fetish Articles section is also empty, there are no posts by admin other than a welcome message, and a note beneath explains that comments are now closed on this page, apparently before anyone had made any.

In the membership area you can search using five filters; gender, which encompasses male, female or couples, sexuality (straight, bi, gay), age, pic or no pic and location. There's no option to find people who share your fetish and the transgender community is not recognised in the search at all.

Free and a great choice of interests

Signing up is completely free and this is something the site owners are very keen to stress. You’ll never be asked to pay for bonus services and there are no upgrades on offer.

Unlike other free kinky dating sites, Bondage Pal insists on a face shot for profiles; but here’s the thing, the kind of picture you use, be it revealingly kinky or arty, is great shorthand. It can immediately attract the attention of a passing fetish lover before he or she clicks away, so Bondage Pal may need to relax that rule eventually.

During the signup for this Bondage Pal review, we were prompted to mention our interests and there are a number of great niche choices, like anime or sex with food. New members are then moved through a number of other information gathering pages relating to location and appearance, after which you're launched into the site.

kinky dating bondage pal review
One of the good things about Bondage Pal is that it's 100% free!

Many dating sites seem to have a larger number of men than women, but nowhere is this more pronounced than on Bondage Pal. A basic search of prospective dates in London, including a radius of 150 miles, resulted in only 18 female profiles.

That’s a tiny amount by anyone’s standards, but considering it included an entire capital city, it’s truly bewildering. Of those 18 only two had photos, but some of the others had filled in their profile and included plenty of detail, especially the dominatrices.

The odds are more in your favour if you’re hoping to be put over the knee of a big strong man. There are numerous male profiles, including a good mix of masters and slaves, both with pictures.

But... pop-ups from hell

However, a major issue with Bondage Pal is its aggressive advertising. It pops up constantly and appears below each profile. Unsurprisingly, it soon begins to grate.

The site acknowledges the problem and mentions the importance of advertising revenue to a free site. It’s a fair point but the choice of product is out of place, something that has raised complaints for other fetish dating websites. We all need to make a living, but Bondage Pal might want to look for less intrusive ways.

UPDATE: Since publishing this review, Bondage Pal has added live chat and removed face-only photo restrictions. Good news and welcome changes -- we'll further update our review as we see more!

I own bondagepal.com I feel your review is very fair. Since the review we have added private picture which have no restrictions. When you make someone a favourite they are given access. In the pipeline we have live chat. I take on board the advert miss-match and will try to address that as well as the overall appearance of the landing page and articles etc. We may consider having no adverts whilst we build up membership. We will be making sub branded sites to pick up on more niche areas and connect them all together.
