Categories like these can become shortcuts we take instead of doing the work. I have a romantic notion that each person I dominate is like a different musical instrument that I need to learn. Different buttons to push, different places to blow, different ways to bend and stroke — as it were. The communication we so value in WIITWD helps a lot with learning how to play effectively!

I am in the first category. I think those in the second category do themselves and their respective D type a disservice. By not knowing who you are and what you want you're leaving that type of pleasure open to interpretation and putting the onus squarely on someone else's shoulders with no guidance. That's not fair in my opinion. If you don't know how to make you happy how do you expect someone else to make you happy?
