The Power of No

Being someone who need connection and emotions for sexual acts is hard when meeting people mostly for the purposes of kink and sex 😅
Because I will take literal weeks before I'm ready to discuss a proper scene. I will flirt and tease but the moment it's wants to be turned to an official act right there is terrifying. My hesitations are a NO. My pushing it till later is a NO.
I want to experience kink yes and sometimes not even be sexual with it. But the pushing of my own boundary for needing connection before that is extremely difficult for many it seems. Just telling me who you are isn't getting to know you. That isn't building a connector within a few days. That isn't "by date 2 you should know if you like me".
Someone who puts in efforts to UNDERSTAND my boundaries and not just see them and push at them will be someone far more trusting then someone I could talk to every day and still not be comfortable with them.

Hesitation is a NO. Delaying is a NO. And anyone who ignores that doesn’t respect you. You deserve someone who puts in the work to understand why you have those boundaries, not just where they’re drawn. Don’t ever let anyone make you feel like you’re 'too much' for wanting to be seen and respected first.

Some people just want to be swingers more than Dom or sub and that's ok but let's call it what it is. Trust has to be built and earned. That's not done in a conversation or even a week.

I don't disagree but I think its important to also point out that people are allowed to have their own framework regarding consent. Yes means Yes, No means no, No until Yes, Yes until no, Yes becomes no (Safeword) are all valid forms of consent and people are allowed to practice them however they want. Governing ones body means putting the yes's and no's where you can/want. Not what other people tell you is or isn't consensual.

Not bad 101 information on the basics of consent, but it gets lost in heavy "one twue way-ism". Complex consent dynamics do exist, can be successful and mutually benefit all partners.

^^^^ This

You can’t leave out the part that just because someone consents to something in the moment, it doesn’t mean that they’re proceeding the experience fully or able to provide accurate or honest feedback right away.

Having detailed conversations ahead of time is ALWAYS the best thing, but I’ve had a few moments where someone said or did something that was harmless, but it immediately made me snap out of that blissful subspace into “wait, scan the room to remember where you are and that the person you’re with is safe”.

Ive done a lot of work on identifying things/situations that trigger a reaction from. Even though if it happens, it’s usually a nothing more than a momentary freeze, but it’s enough to give the other person time to react wonder if they did something wrong.

There’s so much negativity surrounding the word “triggered”, but it’s nothing more than your body telling you there’s something your brain hasn’t been ready to unpack just yet.

Do I want to sit there and try to explain to a man he did nothing wrong when I haven’t had time to understand why something so little might have caused me to instinctively react to it?

If you knew the background and history with my ex, it would probably make a little more sense because he still just says a lot of dumb shit that ***ed me off knowing why he says them and knowing I have no control over when he’s in a mood and decides to take it out on me in an email.

Someone mentioned that they were willing to be patient the other day and after dealing with an entire month of bs from my ex, I immediately wanted to shut down.

You can spend so much time getting to know yourself, but there are always going to be unexpected moments that hit you in a way you’re not prepared for. It’s impossible to know everything about another person when, in theory, we’re never supposed to stop learning about ourselves.

So yes, communication before and during and interaction are incredibly important, but learning that it’s not a reason to get defensive if someone says something unexpected after having some time afterwards to think about it is honestly more important to maintaining the level of trust and respect necessary in a dynamic to make it sustainable.

I read on another thread a younger man assumes female on this site is here for one reason and he feels annoyed when a female say no to him. This site promotes kink activity without also promoting kink community etiquette, protocols, values, and morals. The kink community is just that, a community with a well defined structure and rules. This is a dating site. FetLife site is the doorway to the kink community.

I hope so none learns something from reading this post. It’s terrifying how many adults I meet do not respect boundaries.

When the younger guys approach me, one of the things I suggest to them is asking one of the guys over 60 to mentor them if they have been in the "Lifestyle". Going to parties, dungeons, clubs, gangbangs, whatever kink events have rules, etiquette, processes or you can be banned. Tell him you will buy him a couple of beers and have a list of question. Get it straight from the Dom's or Sub's mouths.

In essence, yes.  Though the problem with AI posts is they are limiting.

There are folk in CNC scenarios who would reject the idea of a 'no' and then one of the whole purposes of a safeword is that sometimes in the moment a 'no' isn't actually - it depends on the context of the relationship/dynamic.

So some of which is touched on by the AI. But.

Of course that any "yes" shouldn't be via ***, or pressure.  There also should be the safety that the person knows there is no consequences for saying the 'no'.  And "consequences" can be a long list of things.  Not even necessarily anything the Dominant is doingm or would do "wrong".   Otherwise enjoyable play ending could be a consequence, even if stopping completely is the right thing to do.

There is also of course a duty on the Dominant to know/learn when it is 'enough' without the need of a no/safeword - which can take time to learn and build to.

The other thing is there are areas where - I won't say things are always bad, because it depends on the context of the relationship.  But there are problems with Dominants bringing in new ideas when play has started, the sub is less likely to say 'no' for anything for *** of disrupting the flow, or their headspace - or because they can't (for example, in subspace or in another position where they're more suggestable) - then of course as well, the areas on gaining consent when someone is drunk or under other influence
