I could use suggestions on inexpensive STD testing, would like to have results that I can show to potential partners. Thanks!

Not from your area so can't suggest anything local to you - here in the UK testing is available free on the NHS and is quick and easy - so may be worth checking if similar services are available local to you via Google.
.
One thing to note however is though you may get a notification that shows you were negative at the time of the test it proves nothing other than you were negative at the time of the test.
.
If you've had sex since the test, or had sex prior to the test but got tested within the window period (the time it takes for an infection to show) of an STI (which in some cases is 12 weeks) the results "prove" nothing and are effectively worthless as proof to another person, other than to show you have been tested.
.
So it comes down to trust regardless of being tested - now that's not to say you shouldn't get tested, if you're sexually active with different partners you should still get tested on a regular basis (recommendation is every 3 months or less dependent on how active you are) but all it does is give you personally your own peace of mind as you're the only one that truly knows how active you have been.

Free on the NHS seems to be dependent on area and age (or if you are showing symptoms)

I guess to flip - what services/results would this hypothetical other person accept?

Also remember that in US the "standard" service is inadequate - if the test doesn't include ***s, urine, swabs - it's not worth the paper it's printed on.

Often County Health Departments offer testing. I think in NJ it often is contracted to Planned Parenthood so I'm not sure if it's free there. In PA testing is free but since Covid that have only been taking people who don't have health insurance. I get my tests every year at my physcial but also have used the County Health Department to get tested before having sex with a new partner.

Thank you for bringing it up in the forum! To me it's very important and while of course it is a snapshot of one moment, I think the gesture alone says a lot about someone!

All NHS sexual health clinics across the UK offer free testing regardless of age, sexual orientation etc - what does seem to vary by region is what tests are available and whether they do the postal testing

for the UK - a lot does depend on what the other person would expect to see.

they are wild inconsistencies across the country (which has been subject to a lot of arguments - long story)

Most GP surgeries have a family planning and can do basic screening, without symptoms, as part of that : you may however be limited to appointments (say a Thursday afternoon) - they do tend to reserve walk-in for younger age groups

the clinics - most haven't recovered properly from covid.  So most (probably all) have reopened but a lot are reduced hours, and walk-ins dropped or limited.   Monkeypox also played a little havoc as some had to reduce appointments further to prioritise Monkeypox vaccines.

Still - if you have a clinic that won't see you without symptoms - they should still be able to give you a home test kit.

Failing that... Lloyds now do a very good private kit for home testing which logs your results on a portal, meaning it's less likely to be tampered with or faked - there are different kits depending on what you need : but the full comprehensive kit is £100

and on one hand, £100 is a lot of ***, on another hand if you're only doing it between relationships for the peace of mind of yourself and the other person - it shouldn't be too prohibitive (and most people won't need the £100 kit)

For anyone in the UK looking for a home test kit for free if you Google SH:24 you can check via your postcode if they serve your area

For anyone globally it's a very good and informative website that has clear and detailed information about pretty much all of the STIs, including symptoms, window periods, treatments and more

In the US, a comprehensive screening costs me around $100. If you google it, there are clinics all over, you won't have to go far. May be available free at Fam planning and/ or your yearly physical.

Look online. I am uk so I can’t give you the name. But make sure it’s reliable and have some government credential. Cheap is not a safe option… especially for that kind of test.

I get *** / urine tests from my doctor for free through my insurance so i get them every other month or so but when i didn’t have this insurance I’d get them from requestatest for like 160 and you just pull up to a quest or labcorp and get it done

I ask for an std swab at the same time i get smear test done at the doctors in my area. Theyve always been able to do this, no charge and the results are documented on your medical file which u can ask for at any time x

This post just makes me so glad I live in the UK where sexual health tests are free on the NHS…

Your doc can order a test from Labcorp or Quest; they're under $150 (minus insurance coverage) and the locations are quite common. CVS MinuteClinic can also do them, but I'm not as familiar with them.

Free clinics are an excellent choice, but they're very localized in that they're frequently sponsored by a state, county or locality Health Dept, though a notable exception is Planned Parenthood. You're better off googling for "cheap std testing" to get better results.

Finally, there's quite a few home test kits available. I haven't personally used them, but I know people who have & the process is fairly simple & easy. I'm sure they vary in accuracy, but any place worth its salt would publish some sort of report on that sort of thing by an accrediting body, and at the least be able to show regulation by the FDA.

Also, cheers for being a responsible human and taking sexual health seriously :)
