The birth of bondage at Fetters Warwick
Fetters Warwick is much more than a fetish brand - it's a byword for bondage. Established back in 1976, the store is one of the longest-running bondage companies in the world. Indeed, it's fair to say that company's innovative BDSM products created the fetish market we know and cherish today.
The Fetters Warwick story - which reads like a history of bondage - is available on the company's websites, and it makes for a fascinating read.
It was the great escape artist, Harry Houdini, who inspired Maurice Stewart Addison (known as Jim) to form Fetters Warwick. Jim discovered bondage at ten-years-old, through Houdini. It was to be the start of a lifelong and all-consuming passion.
Back in 1976, when Jim began running what would become Fetters Warwick from his home in London, items used for physical restraint were generally not considered in a sexual light. Jim soon changed this, launching the first Fetters Warwick catalogue in 1977, focussing on escape artists such as his hero, Houdini.
Houdini-inspired hoods, chastity devices, straight jackets, hospital equipment to control patients, and all manner of restraints followed, each exquisitely crafted object designed for erotic bondage. A market was born - and was given a boost by the then-burgeoning gay community.
New items such as chastity shorts and jocks were added to the Fetters Warwick stock and made available via mail order. The 1980s ushered in a more liberal society, and Fetters Warwick continued to grow, boldly leading the way in kink excellence.
In 2015, Fetters Warwick was acquired by London fetish manufacturer, Regulation (GB) Ltd, and the brand has steadfastly added further ingenious products to its vast, internationally-respected range of fetish and kink gear.
Today, Fetish Warwick operates from its showroom in a reclaimed mill in Warwick, as well as running a hugely popular online business.
It caters to every conceivable taste in bondage gear, but also hoods and clothing, playroom furniture, and a comprehensive range of sex and fetish toys. These included everything from impact toys to wax play candles, nipple clamps, cock and ball toys, and devastating little devices for electro sex.
