OkCupid claims to have 30 million users, and with 7.3 million messages sent on OkCupid and the OK Cupid App every single day, its big gimmick is that it claims to use math to match you with people who care about the things that you do. Best of all, it's '100% FREE!' What more could I ask for? So I tried an OkCupid login.
With just a bold stripe of blue on a mostly white background, OkCupid and the OkCupid App are sleek, easy on the eye and easy to navigate.
I found two ways to browse users. Use ‘Browse Matches’ to see images, where I could then click through to their profile. There's also the ‘Double Take’ feature which gave me the chance to see the users’ photos and their profile on the same page. Perfect for an OkCupid review of the thousands of users that match up with me. I could then easily like them or reject with just a click of a button.
It was possible to add an intro too, so if someone I liked looked at my profile in double take, there would be a personal message for them. I found it best to write something based on their profile to grab attention.
The sign-up process was pretty straightforward on both the OKCupid website and the OkCupid App. I popped in my essential details then got to state my preferences. One of the questions seemed very binary, asking if I was male or female, but there was a ‘more options’ button that gives you 22 different gender identities to pick.
OkCupid unlike Plenty of Fish gives you the option to state you’re non-monogamous too. No need to hide your polyamorous side. A definite positive for this kinky OKCupid review.
I continued to answer a bunch of questions such as what are your political leanings, do you smoke or take drugs? If you’re carefree or intense, messy or not. Next, I was asked about who I was interested in, and although I wasn’t asked kink or fetish orientated questions, I could happily put my kinky leanings into my profile which is the same on both the website and the OkCupid App. Once that was done, and I added a picture (or up to 6) I had the choice to fill in more questions or jump right in and look for matches.
Under the bonnet at OkCupid.
When I did an OkCupid login to the site and the OkCupid App, I found them to be quick not clunky and sending messages was a doddle. As a female user, I especially appreciated that you need to mutually like each other before you can send more than an intro message on OkCupid and the OkCupid App. I found this means I got more meaningful messages but not as many as on other sites.
It was easy to block unwanted messages too; I could un-match with a user, block them or report them quickly, without any hassle. Making an OkCupid login feel fun and flirty not hard work like other sites can be!
I didn’t see many obvious fetishists and kinksters on show as I did my OkCupid review. Photos tend to be of a vanilla nature; however, I did see one person wrapped up in rope. Finding kinky people by their profiles is possible. I found people very upfront about their kink and others who were subtler about it.
Getting down to business, though... is it worth an OkCupid login for members of the kink community? Well, the answer is 'probably.’ It is a kink-friendly site but not a kink specific site. It’s easy to use, and the OkCupid App means you can access it anywhere.
The Public Profile section of the account does have some basic questions to answer about yourself, but there is nothing there specifically about sexual interests (or even sex for that matter). Nothing is stopping you from dropping details under the heading 'You should message me if...' for example, but how well received that would be is open to question.
You can certainly post your profile picture and send and receive messages without cost. However, I found while creating this OkCupid review that there's a whole raft of features that will require you to part with cash before you can use them. The majority are bundled as something known as 'A-List' either basic or premium, it gives you increased search options, ability to filter profiles and It may be worth the cost to have a quick way to see who likes you without having to browse through profiles to find out.
To conclude this OkCupid review, this dating site is undoubtedly high quality, very busy and welcoming of alternative lifestyles, people of all genders and sexualities too. It’s not openly as friendly to kinksters, but it’s certainly possible to find kinky people through the medium of OkCupid and the OkCupid App, but if you are looking for ONLY kinky people to date, an OkCupid login might not be the perfect match for you.
